Carlos Condit has suffered two straight losses for just the second time in his MMA career, but they've come against the current top two fighters in the welterweight division. Because of that, he finds himself in a uniquely qualified position to analyze the upcoming fight between Georges St-Pierre and Johny Hendricks.
He did just that on Friday night, giving his thoughts and predictions for the matchup in an interview with AXS TV's "Inside MMA" program.
"I'm going to have to go with Georges St-Pierre," Condit said (transcribed by MMAJunkie.com. "Georges St-Pierre, he's just a more polished fighter. Johny Hendricks, he's dangerous, and he's got good skills, but he's a little rough around the edges when it comes to his whole game."
"Georges is just such a technician. He puts together things so well, and he's just a sharp, clean fighter, and I think that's going to make a difference in that matchup."
Penick's Analysis: Given he had more success against Hendricks than he did against St-Pierre - save for his head kick knockdown in the third round of that fight - it's not surprising to see him go for the Champ. Hendricks is the rightful underdog going into the fight, and he's going to have a much harder time against GSP than he has against others given the wrestling abilities the Champ possesses. Condit's assessment isn't off, either, as St-Pierre's definitely a cleaner, more technical fighter than Hendricks has shown to be. That doesn't mean Hendricks isn't capable of winning the fight, because he is, but it's certainly not the simplest of challenges.
