The California State Athletic Commission has released the official salaries for all of the contestants who competed in Saturday’s “UFC on FOX: Henderson vs. Melendez” event.
Benson Henderson (pictured) was the night’s biggest winner. Not only did he leave Cali with his lightweight title in tow, but he pocketed $200,000 for posting a split decision victory over Gilbert Melendez in the show’s featured attraction.
Half of “Smooth’s” paycheck came via win bonus.
Melendez, meanwhile, made $175,000 in his big league debut.
Former UFC heavyweight champ Frank Mir tied Henderson as the card’s highest earner with $200k.
Please keep in mind, the numbers that get reported to the athletic commissions are only of what’s required. These figures do not include deductions for items such as licenses and taxes.
Additionally, they do not contain money paid by sponsors or any bonuses from the UFC. These royalties can include Fight Night bonuses, top secret discretionary bonuses, etc., which can oftentimes represent a substantial portion of a fighter’s total income.
HP Pavilion in San Jose, California hosted Saturday’s event.
