UFC lightweight Jim Miller will welcome former Strikeforce star Pat Healy to the Octagon on April 27 at UFC 159, putting his reputation on the line against a seasoned veteran who many mainstream fans may not be familiar with. However, rather than run from the risk, Miller actually considered the match-up an honor and was happy to accept it.
The 22-4 Miller spoke about the situation in a recent interview with the UFC where he expressed the call to action indicated he’d achieved a level of success few fighters do as a competitor with crosshairs on his back.
“I don’t bust my ass in (the gym) to have guys compete with me; to have it be a close fight. I want to dominate and put guys away and have it easy.
“The guys working their way up, they wanna kick my ass. I’ve got no problems with that. I’ll defend myself in there. It means I’ve done the right things and I’ve put myself in a spot where guys want to make a name off me. And it’s my job to not let them.”
“It’s a tough fight. He’s a great wrestler and grappler. We have a lot of similarities. “I think I hold an advantage on the feet. If I can exploit a weakness I’m going to but I don’t expect it to be there. I expect him to have the crispest, sharpest hands and most devastating kicks and knees we’ve ever seen. And if he falls short, I’ll capitalize on it.”
