An injury to Strikeforce veteran Sarah Kaufman has forced the former Strikeforce bantamweight champion out of her Invicta FC debut against Kaitlin Young. Invicta officials have decided to reshuffle the card so that Kaitlin Young will now square off with Leslie Smith in a rematch of their Invicta FC 1 split draw.
Invicta FC officials have now confirmed the report by various sources earlier today.
Smith’s former opponent, replacement Kim Connor-Hamby, will now face off with bantamweight prospect Raquel Pennington. Pennington recently defeated Sarah Moras via unanimous decision at Invicta FC 2.
Smith and Young originally fought at Invicta FC 1, where they fought to an exciting split draw decision. Their efforts earned the “Fight of the Night” honors that night and the two will look to settle the score on October 6.
Invicta FC 3 takes place October 6 live from the Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas. The card will be headlined by the inaugural atomweight (105lbs) title fight between Jessica Penne and Naho Sugiyama. The card has not announced its broadcast plans but will likely stream via the company’s website.
