Zuffa’s trouble with injuries to headliners appears to still be ongoing, as it appears heavyweight Frank Mir has withdrawn from a November match-up with Daniel Cormier. The two were set to face off in what would have been Grand Prix winner Cormier’s final bout under the Strikeforce banner before joining the UFC’s roster.
While Strikeforce hasn’t had problems on the health-related front, the UFC has lost two main events over the past month including Jon Jones-Dan Henderson and Frankie Edgar-Jose Aldo.
MMAJunkie confirmed the change to the card after the story was initially reported by SportsRage. It is likely Strikeforce will find a substitute for Mir though it is unknown if the fighter will come from the UFC’s roster or free agency.
Cormier Wants to Fight Jon Jones
Cormier and Mir were supposed to headline a November 3 show in Cormier’s old college stomping ground. The lineup is also expected to host a title-fight between middleweight champ Luke Rockhold and unbeaten contender Lorenz Larkin.
