A light-heavyweight bout between Chad Griggs (11-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) and Cyrille Diabate (18-8-1 MMA, 3-2 UFC) is the latest addition to November's UFC 154 event.
UFC officials today announced the fight.
UFC 154 takes place Nov. 17 at Montreal's Bell Centre. The event's main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook.
Griggs vs. Diabate likely will be part of the prelims.
Diabate initially was expected to replace the recently retired Jorgen Kruth against Fabio Maldonado in a UFC on FUEL TV 5 bout that subsequently moved to UFC 154. However, Maldonado was pulled from the card and ultimately replaced Quinton "Rampage" Jackson in a UFC 153 bout with Glover Teixeira.
Now with an opponent, Diabate looks for back-to-back wins for the first time in the UFC after earning a majority-decision win over Tom DeBlass at UFC on FUEL TV 2. The Frenchman made his UFC debut in May 2010 with a win over Luiz Cane and since has alternated between wins and losses over a span of five fights.
Griggs, a former Strikeforce fighter, made his UFC debut earlier this year on the strength of a six-fight win streak. However, the Arizona-based fighter suffered a first-round submission loss to Travis Browne. Afterward, he opted to drop from heavyweight to light heavyweight and accepted a UFC on FOX 4 bout in August with Phil Davis, but he was forced off the card with an injury.
The latest UFC 154 card now includes:
Champ Georges St-Pierre vs. interim champ Carlos Condit (to unify UFC welterweight titles)*
Johny Hendricks vs. Martin Kampmann
Mark Bocek vs. Rafael dos Anjos
Patrick Cote vs. Alessio Sakara
Tom Lawlor vs. Francis Carmont
Mark Hominick vs. Pablo Garza
John Makdessi vs. Sam Stout
Azamat Gashimov vs. Ivan Menjivar
Cyrille Diabate vs. Chad Griggs
Stephen Thompson vs. Besam Yousef
Antonio Carvalho vs. Rodrigo Damm
