Despite trying to rally his fans for a fight against Junior dos Santos, Mark Hunt allegedly turned down the matchup when offered. That's the word from UFC President Dana White, who fired back at some fans on Twitter who were unhappy with White's statement that the JDS-Alistair Overeem bout would likely take place in the summer.
@anakinskyboogie hey dummy Mark Hunt turned down the fight with JDS as of last night so STFU when u don't know what ur talkin about.

@nickfury16 @markhunt1974 with his win last week he broke into the top 10. He will get a top 10 fight but as of last nite he turned down JDS

Penick's Analysis: It doesn't make any sense for him to try to get into the fight only to turn it down. There was some talk of him possibly nursing an injury into the Struve fight, and if he was hurt and couldn't actually step in at UFC 160, it may make sense for him to turn the date out. If he was just trying to get the JDS fight, but wanted it a few weeks later, then it makes sense for him not to get it if that's when Overeem can return, but it's odd that he would turn down the fight after trying to "rally the troops" to get the offer in the first place.
UPDATE: Hunt has denied White's claims on Twitter, saying the following:
Jus so u know I don't turn fights down

I have never turned down a fight and even wen I was injured I had to force myself not to fight your general fears no man but the almighty
