UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre has taken a lot of flak over the past few years for notching the majority of his wins by way of decision rather than finishing foes as many feel someone with his status as a pound-for-pound great should. In fact, it’s been more than three years since St-Pierre scored a victory without scorecards coming into play.
St-Pierre hopes to change that tonight when he locks horns with rival Nick Diaz at UFC 158. Outside of a cut-based stoppage, Diaz has only been put down a single time in his career with the stumble coming in 2002 after competing in two other tilts on the same night. Though some might think St-Pierre’s desire to destroy Diaz relates to the personal feud between the two, GSP recently told Fuel TV it’s all business inside the Octagon.
“It doesn’t bother me. I’m gonna win…I’m gonna beat him…that’s all,” explained St-Pierre of Diaz’s pre-fight trash-talk, adding, “I’m gonna try to finish him if I have an opportunity.”
