Stephan Bonnar and Dave Herman Fail UFC 153 Drug Tests

UFC Stephan Bonnar

What do Stephan Bonnar (Pictured) and Dave Herman have in common? Not only did both athletes lose last month at UFC 153, but they also flunked their post-fight drug tests.

MMAJunkie.com confirmed with the UFC, who oversaw the event because Brazil does not have a governing body for mixed martial arts shows, that Bonnar and Herman were the only competitors out of the card’s 24 contestants to produce positive exams.

Bonnar had the anabolic steroid Drostanolone in his system, while Herman was busted for marijuana metabolites. This marks the second time they have failed drug screenings.

The now-retired Bonnar tested positive for Boldenone following his unanimous decision defeat to Forrest Griffin at UFC 62. The 35-year-old actually owned his steroid use by claiming he did it to speed up the rehab process on his injured elbow for the August 2006 rematch.

Herman, meanwhile, was pulled from a scheduled UFC 136 scrap against Mike Russow when he failed a pre-fight test issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Herman later revealed marijuana was the offending substance, though he denied ever using the sticky icky.

“Pee Wee” claimed he was a victim of secondhand smoke…

UFC 153 took place October 13th inside HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro. Bonnar lost to Anderson Silva in the show’s featured attraction, while Herman was submitted by Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in the co-main event.
