Thiago Silva Tests Positive for Marijuana According to Zuffa Statement

Thiago SilvaThiago Silva has garnered another suspension following his come from behind victory over Stanislov Nedkov at UFC on FUEL 6. Silva has been suspended six months  after testing positive for marijuana. The Brazilian fighter will also enter a treatment plan following the positive test. The announcement was made via a statement from Zuffa.

Zuffa’s statement:

“Thiago Silva tested positive for marijuana metabolites following his bout at UFC on FUEL TV in Macau. The UFC organization has a strict, consistent policy against the use of any illegal and/or performance-enhancing drugs, stimulants or masking agents. Silva has admitted to taking the banned substance and has agreed to participate in an approved drug-rehabilitation program and serve a six-month suspension retroactive to the November 10 event. He must pass a drug test upon completion of the suspension before receiving clearance to fight again.”

Coincidentally, Silva was already medically suspended for six months due to a suspected broken right hand. The suspension will be Silva’s second in his last three fights. Silva was suspended for submitting a false urine sample at UFC 125. The bout’s result will likely be overturned to a “no contest,” leaving the once-promising Brazilian without an official victory since 2009.
