As expected, it looks like UFC featherweight champ Jose Aldo will be putting his divisional gold up for grabs against former lightweight title-holder Frankie Edgar the next time he steps into the Octagon. The two were originally scheduled to face off a few weeks ago before Aldo was forced to withdraw due to injury.
According to UFC Tonight, Aldo and Edgar will fight on February 2 at UFC 156. The card marks the organization’s annual Super Bowl Weekend extravaganza, meaning the lineup is likely to be stacked considering the show’s historical significance.
The bout will be Edgar’s first at featherweight after tearing up the scene as a 155-pounder despite his diminutive frame. “The Answer” holds an overall record of 14-3-1 including impressive wins over Gray Maynard, Jim Miller, Sean Sherk, and BJ Penn.
Edgar Doesn’t See Many Weaknesses in Aldo’s Attack
In contrast, Aldo has always been seen as being relatively big for 145 pounds. Regardless, his success in the cage has earned the 21-1 Brazilian status as one of MMA’s top pound-for-pound fighters. He has emerged with his hand raised in fourteen straight scraps with success against the likes of Mark Hominick, Cub Swanson, Kenny Florian, and most recently Chad Mendes.
