Former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson will return to the Octagon this January for the first time since losing his belt, taking on top-contender Josh Thomson at UFC on FOX 10.
Officials announced the contest late Saturday night for the January 25 card from Chicago’s United Center. It will serve as the main event.
Henderson (19-3) last fought in August, falling to Anthony Pettis via first round submission and dropping his belt in the process.
Thomson (20-5) moved into the role of No. 1 contender after a win over Nate Diaz earlier this year. He was scheduled to challenge Pettis for the title, but “Showtime” bowed out of a December encounter with a knee injury.
Pettis is expected to undergo surgery, but it has not been determined if an interim title will be created in his absence.
