He said it would never happen, and it has. No, not Fedor being signed to the UFC. I think Dan Henderson firmly ensured that wouldnt happen. Im talking about women competing inside the Octagon. The UFC introduced a womens division at 135lbs back in December 2012 and while its been pretty awesome so far, weve seen a number of women fighting far above their normal fighting weight in order to compete in the UFC which is admirable but not really ideal.
Look, we know it would be awesome to see the female Cyborg in the UFC but the most stacked divisions are at 135lbs and below. Youd be forgiven for expecting a 125lb division to be the next addition but no, Dana exclusively told The Fighter and the Kid podcast that the next addition to the UFC would be a 115lb womens division.
Ill give you guys something nobody knows yet. Were actually working on bringing in another division for the women, which I said would never happen for a long time,
When asked if it would be 125lbs or 145lbs Dana replied
Neither . . . 115 pounds
That means we will most likely see some of the most exciting female talent in all of MMA inside the UFC and Dana will be competing head to head with Invicta and Shannon Knapp. Whatever happens, Im just excited about the prospect of seeing Jo Calderwood in the UFC.
