Thiago Bests Prazeres
Paulo Thiago got a much needed victory tonight against fellow Brazilian police officer Michel Prazeres. The late-replacement would give Thiago all he could handle, but just could not overcome the UFC veteran. The bout hinged on Thiago’s ability to land the outside trip late in the fight, as the BOPE officer landed a crucial trip late in the fight to seal it in his favor. The win brings Thiago to 2-4 in his last six fights.
Alcantara Blitzes Late Replacement Santos
Yuri Alcantara picked up where left off in Brazil tonight as he destroyed late replacement Iliarde Santos, only this time there was no dubious “no contest.” Alcantara teed off with power shots that left Santos, who usually fights at flyweight, in a daze on the canvas. The victorious Brazilian remains undefeated since he dropped to bantamweight following his UFC 147 loss to Hacran Dias.
Maldonado Edges Hollet
Brazilian boxer Fabio Maldonado (pictured) notched an important victory against Roger Hollet tonight in his native Brazil. Maldonado had a slow start to the fight, which was not helped by an ugly groin shot, but rallied in the second and third periods. The Brazilian used the Canadian fighter’s waning gas tank to seize control of the fight and punctuated the fight with a dominant third round. The win likely saves Maldonado’s place in the UFC by snapping a three-fight losing streak, Hollet will likely be cut after his second straight UFC loss tonight in Brazil.
