Gabriel Gonzaga steps up to fight Dave Herman at UFC 162

An injury to UFC heavyweight Shane Del Rosario has resulted in the 29-year old’s removal from a UFC 162 scrap with Dave Herman. Fortunately, Brazilian finisher Gabriel Gonzaga was willing to fill the vacancy, resulting in a rumble as intriguing if not more so than the original offering.

UFC officials have confirmed the change. No specifics were given on Del Rosario’s issue or his expected date of return.

Gonzaga (14-7) was on a three-fight winning streak before suffering an opening round knockout to Travis Browne in mid-April. All his victories have featured a finish including those in match-ups with Mirko Filipovic and Ben Rothwell.

Herman is almost certainly fighting for his job at the July 6 show after dropping his last three tilts and testing positive for marijuana use. He is 21-5 in his career with a similar percentage of stoppages, only winning one bout by way of decision in comparison to 20 TKOs/submissions.
