UFC heavyweight Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira could walk away from Mixed Martial Arts today and go down as one of the greatest big men to ever grace the ring. The 37-year old has beaten some of the sport’s biggest stars over a fourteen-year run in the sport, showing incredible heart and technique throughout his career while always carrying himself with complete class. However, Nogueira isn’t ready to retire despite a slew of injuries including those sustained in a recent submission loss to Fabricio Werdum.
Nogueira has since had surgery to repair the ligament damage done to his arm and plans to get back to training as soon as he’s able to. According to manager Ed Soares by way of The MMA Hour, the beloved Brazilian’s recovery has already started with “three months” serving as the expected timetable for Nogueira’s return. If all goes according to plan, that means “Big Nog” will be ready for battle at some point this fall.
“Minotauro” is only one win above .500 in his nine fights since signing with the UFC. That being said, he still holds an overall record of 34-8-1 and can claim past success over the likes of Werdum, Tim Sylvia, Mirko Filipovic, Josh Barnett, and Randy Couture.
