UFC welterweight Johny Hendricks can finally sleep easy, as his crack at champion Georges St-Pierre is officially set in stone. Hendricks earned his shot in March but had been anxiously waiting for word on when it would take place while dealing with speculation about St-Pierre holding out for Anderson Silva or focusing on films instead.
According to a report on UFC Tonight, the two talented 170ers will square off on November 16 in Las Vegas at UFC 167. No other bouts have been attached to the event though it is expected to be a stacked show based on the weekend also serving as the 20th anniversary of the UFC’s first card.
The 15-1 Hendricks has won six straight since his lone career stumble, beating the likes of Josh Koscheck, Jon Fitch, Martin Kampmann, and Carlos Condit along the way. The 29-year old is seen by many as the biggest challenge St-Pierre will have faced in some time due to wrestling acumen and one-punch knockout power.
GSP is on a nice run himself with eleven victories in a row including eight title-defenses. He holds an overall record of 24-2 with notable triumphs such as those over Koscheck, Condit, Jake Shields, and Nick Diaz.
