Bellator 85 Results and Play By Play

Bellator kicks off their 2013 season with their new night, new time, and new network tonight, and  you can watch the action right here on Fighters.com. We will be bring you live results for the whole card and play by play coverage of the main card, but you can watch the preliminary card tonight starting at 8:00PM EST right here on Fighters.com. The main card features two title fights and the opening round of the  light heavyweight tournament, and you will not want to miss any of it.  Don’t worry if you do, we will be bringing you as  much coverage as we can muster.

Play By Blay

Pat Curran vs. Patricio Freire
Round 1

Curran takes the center of the cage, and Freire is circling. The feeling out process has begun and  they exchange leg kicks. Curran is  pressing forward but Freire is landing shots. So far Curran looks stiff. 2 minutes in and very little action. Curran lands a nice right hook, and now Curran is starting to relax. Curran looking to counter when Freire closes in with strikes. Freire is landing leg kicks, and Curran might want to start checking those. Round ends with a flurry from Freire that doesn’t land.

Round 2

Freire takes the center this time, but Curran is definitely more relaxed in this round. Freire is starting to turn on the pressure some and is staying in Curran’s face. The output is definitely in the favor of Pitbull so far, but Curran is landing a very nice one-two combination that are very straight. Curran lands a nice  knee, and he is now opening  up with his kicks. Freire is throwing shots, but more of Curran’s are landing. Freire eats a fast head kick from Curran, but it doesn’t phase Freire. Freire is coming forward, but is consistently eating punches on the way in. Freire has been landing a nice combination, and he is always finishing with the low leg kick that Curran still isn’t checking. Curran lands straight jab and the round ends.

Round 3

Freire opens up with a headkick but Curran sees it coming. Both standing in the center of the cage circling and throwing 2 to 3 punch combinations. Curran is landing the job more and more, and Freire’s face is starting to show it. Freire lands another head kick, but Curran is  staying together. Freire is turning on the pressure, and lands a decent jump in knee. Freire seems to be dictating the pace in this round, and is landing his left hook more and  more. Freire cut under the eye. Freire is doing a good job of sticking and moving, and is slowly picking up the timing of Curran.

Round 4

Curran turning up the output,  but its stil Freire coming forward. Curran lands a nice straight right and stuns Freire, and that has lit a small fire under Curran. He seems to have more confidence. Curran’s corner thinks Pitbull his hurt. Fighters bump heads, and they take a short break. Curran is starting to mix up the striking some, but Freire is landing counters. Freire dives in for a takedown, but doesn’t get it. Curran is starting to put shots together, and is going to the body of the more tired Freire. Curran lands a double left jab to end the round.

Round 5

Curran takes the center, but both are feeling they need this round to win. Freire goes for another takedown, but nothing doing. Back to eating more jabs from Curran. Curran really landng the shots to the body, and the output is definitely in Curran’s favor.Freire is coming forward some, but its Curran who is getting the better of the exchanges. Curran is playing the counter role, and its working as Freire is getting frustrated. Everytime Freire takes a few steps forward, he gets backed up from Curran with counter shots. Curran lands a nice four shot combination, and is picking apart Freire in the last round. Freire is following Curran around the cage, but  its Curran who is landing the better shots.

Mikhail Zayats Vs. Renato Sobral

Round 1
Sobral takes the center, and is pressuring Zayats early. Sobral clinches, and wants to get this fight to the ground. Sobral landing  knees to Zayats legs along the fence. Big John breaks them up, and Sobral starts to work again walking down Zayats. Zayats eats a low shot, they break, and are back it with no time off. Sobral lands a big right hand that spun the head around of Zayats’, but Zayats clinches and backs up to the fence. Big John breaks em up again. Sobral is going to work on the front leg of Zayats. A spinning back fist from Zayats lands and stuns Sobral, and Sobral turns  on the pressure and  drops Sobral with a left hands. After 4 or 5 unanswered punches Big John jumps in and saves Sobral.

Michael Chandler vs. Rick Hawn
Round 1
Chandler the one coming  forward early, but Hawn is keeping his distance.  Chandler holding his hands pretty low early in the fight. Both fighters measuring each other out. Chandler dives in for the takedown, and Hawn is on his back. Hawn ding a good job of tying up Chandler and is giving him no space. Chandler is working from guard and landing some GnP, Hawn tries to scramble up, but Chandler is landing viscous knees to the thighs. Hawn scrambles out, and lands a nice straight right to the chin of Chandler.

Round 2
Chandler showing a nice extension on the jab, but Hawn is doing well staying outside of them. Chandler crowds Hawn and picks him up and takes him down. Chandler goes to work with the ground and pound. Chandler lands a nice series of elbows and Hawn is trying to scramble to his feet but the wrestling of Chandler is too much. Hawn gets up but Chandler pulls him to the mats, and on his way back up Chandler takes his back. Chandler sinks in the rear naked choke, and Hawn is forced to tap.

Seth Petruzelli vs. Jacob Noe
Round 1
Petruzelli takes the center, and lands a nice left hand as he enters in for the first time. Petruzelli grabs the leg and is going for a takedown along the fence. Noe isn’t having it. Petruzelli backs off, and they go back to the center. Petruzelli lands a nice one two. Petruzelli claims he was poked in the eye, but Ref Herzog didnt see it and makes them continue. Petruzelli is having success with his straight left, and then goes in for a shot. He doesn’t get the takedown, and Noe goes to work on top. Petruzelli is turtling up, and after a bunch of left hands the ref pulls him off. Petruzelli might have hurt his knee, but regardless Noe gets the  upset.
