One of the most controversial outcomes of the year came last month at UFC 154 when Patrick Cote (18-8) was handed a disqualification win after opponent Alessio Sakara (15-10) finished him off with a series of strikes to the back of his head. While the illegal blows were certainly enough to merit the decision, Sakara did not appear to receive any warnings about the punches while delivering them and was initially handed a TKO victory.
In hopes of producing a satisfactory, clear-cut result between the two, the UFC has decided to book a rematch for March 16 at UFC 158 in Montreal. Interestingly enough, their original clash came in Montreal as well.
UFC officials have confirmed the match-up.
The fight should be a fan-friendly affair based on style, as both men prefer to stand and owe the bulk of their past wins to strike-based stoppages. Cote has eight TKOs to his credit including those over Drew McFedries and Kendall Grove. Comparably, Sakara has put away nine opponents with his eight-point attack even though it has been more than two years since he’s emerged triumphant.
