Eddie Wineland vs. Johnny Eduardo reportedly headed to UFC Fight Night event in Cincinnati on May 10

A bantamweight bout between Eddie Wineland and Johnny Eduardo is headed to the UFC Fight Night event in Cincinnati on May 10, according to several reports out of Brazil.

Eduardo returns to action for the first time in nearly two years. The Brazilian's last fight came against Jeff Curran back at the UFC on Fuel event in Fairfax, Va. in 2012. He was scheduled for two bouts in 2013, only to pull out due to injury on each occasion.

Wineland is working his way back into title contention after a loss to Renan Barao last September. In his first outing since that loss, Wineland knocked out Yves Jabouin in January.

The UFC's May 10 event does not yet have a headliner, but it will be their first event in the city since October of 2007.

Firas Zahabi on GSP's hiatus: "You do it competitively, you're going to do it to the point where you hate it"

Former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre had to take a break from the sport after his fight with Johny Hendricks in November, and it isn't guaranteed that he'll return.

That doesn't mean he'll stop training, of course, and his longtime head coach, Tristar's Firas Zahabi, thinks he'll always be involved in martial arts in some capacity.

"I don't think he'll ever stop martial arts," Zahabi said in an interview with MMAJunkie.com. "If he came and told me he was never doing martial arts again, I wouldn't believe him. I think martial arts has carved a part of his personality; he's done it from so young. It saved him from bullying; it got him the life he has right now."

"He will always be doing martial arts. Now, he's doing it for love and passion, and doing it for competition is two different things."

Zahabi believes St-Pierre simply overworked himself, and pushed himself to the point where he just couldn't continue at that pace any longer. At least for now.

"I've been a part of thousands of training camps; Georges St-Pierre camps are the most extreme," Zahabi said. "I think he went too far, too long, and mentally, it's not feasible. You go home, you get ready for the next workout, and then it's back to the gym the next day. There's no balance in your life, and it's going to weigh on you mentally. It's a never-ending life of discipline and rushing. There's no time to enjoy life in his lifestyle.

"You do it competitively, you're going to do it to the point where you hate it," Zahabi continued. "You're going to do it to the point to where you've had enough, and there's still more work to be done, and you have to do it. When you do it for life and for fun and you've had enough, you can go home."

"I think what Georges did was right. He lives a life of extremes, but you can only do it for a period of time. Nobody's ever taken it to that extreme. It's a question of will; you can't force that on somebody. Georges did it for too long, and he needs a mental break."

Penick's Analysis: I think the longer St-Pierre has away from the grind of a training camp, the more likely it is that he'll ready himself for a return to competition. He clearly over-worked himself, he put too much pressure on himself and on being the best in the sport. That had a negative effect when he received backlash as well. There was a lot that likely went into it mentally, and if and when he does return, he'll be in a much clearer mental state.

Ex-UFC fighter Dennis Hallman says house burned down prior to Thanksgiving

Former UFC fighter Dennis Hallman is undoubtedly on an unlucky streak.

Weeks after the UFC released him from the promotion, the veteran fighter today said via social media that his house burned down on the night before Thanksgiving.

Hallman said no one, including his kids, was injured during the blaze.

UFC champ Jose Aldo responds to Dana White's criticism

Of all of UFC president Dana White's recent, unhinged and unadulterated moments, his criticism of featherweight champ Jose Aldo earlier this month stood out. Even after Aldo soundly beat Ricardo Lamas to earn his 17th straight win, White somehow found a way to bash "Scarface."

“The thing about Jose Aldo that drives me crazy is the kid has all the talent in the world,” White told ESPN.com.

“He’s explosive, fast. He can do anything but he just lays back and doesn’t let anything go."

Right, Dana. Like Aldo held back with kick after thundering kick to the shoulder of Chan Sung Jung en route to a nasty TKO win in his prior fight once he realized the Korean was hurt.

Or, when Aldo defended a take down from Chad Mendes, spun around and knocked him out with a knee with less than a second left in the first round of a prior title defense in 2012. Or his crushing TKO win over Mike Brown or double flying knee KO of Cub Swanson or – the point is, there are more exciting highlight reel finish examples from Aldo's career than we have time to go into here now.

Of Aldo's 24 career professional MMA wins, sixteen have been finishes.

Aldo can't help it when he unloads on a guy like Lamas or Kenny Florian for five rounds and they are too tough to go down. Fighting is hard.

Much harder than a non-fighter, corporate executive like White can understand. He could, of course, still be respectful of that which he doesn't understand.

Aldo recently responded to White's criticism and doesn't seem to put much stock into it. "I never fought so well like in my last fight," Aldo told Guilherme Cruz in a recent interview.

"I attacked him the whole time. I did my best. We need to know how to handle the criticism. You dedicate and suffer a lot to showcase your technique and ability, things that few people can do, and some people say you’re laying back. It’s tough, but I don’t care about this."

Aldo has not lost in eight and a half years and believes that he's as strong as ever, if smarter. "I don’t think I have slowed down," he went on.

"I may be more strategic, but offensive as always. I attacked a lot in my last fight. We always try the knockout but it’s hard to get it if the opponent always runs away."

At the end of the day, the Brazilian champ knows that there are no true conciliation prizes for losers, no matter how exciting they are.

"If you lose, no one will remember you, but if you’re the champion they will always remember you. I want to keep winning, no matter what."

The cost of betrayal: Daniel Cormier, Patrick Cummins & UFC 170

What happens in the practice room stays in the practice room. It's a code that has been largely adhered to by fighters everywhere since, well, ever since.

It's a code that Patrick Cummins broke loudly last week in order to help him get a shot in the UFC. Before last week, Cummins was just another former top amateur wrestler who was largely unknown in his young MMA career.

Then, the former Penn-State wrestling All-American started talking about closed-door training sessions he'd had with Daniel Cormier a decade ago as "DC" prepared for the 2004 Olympic games in Athens. Cummins said that he took Cormier down, that he stymied the two-time Olympic wrestler's offense.

More importantly, Cummins said that he "broke" Cormier and made the now undefeated MMA fighter cry. Cummins "revealed" all this publicly in order to get himself attention and convince the UFC that they should give him a shot at the big time, specifically against Cormier.

As you probably already know, Cormier had been set to make his light heavyweight debut against Rashad Evans at this Saturday's UFC 170 event in Las Vegas until "Suga" injured his knee. Cormier was left without an opponent and begged UFC President Dana White to find someone, anyone, to replace Evans so that all of Cormier's hard work during training camp would not have been in vain.

In large part because of his statements about making Cormier cry, White found Cummins.

Cummins' 4-0 MMA record is meager in comparison to that of Cormier - who was essentially the number two heavyweight in the world before deciding to drop to 205 pounds and avoid a showdown with friend and champion Cain Velasquez. All of Cummins' wins have come via first round stoppage but his opponents' combined record is 10-20, overall.

Now, Cummins will fight on short notice against Cormier in the co-main event of UFC 170 on Saturday night.

Predictably, Cormier feels that his former Team USA teammate is in over his head. After all, Cormier has already dominated two different former UFC heavyweight champions en route to establishing a 13-0 MMA record.

"Pat Cummins, you got a raise but you got punished because you're going to have to step into the Octagon with me," Cormier said last Thursday during a Fox Sports Live interview.

"You are completely in over your head, Patrick Cummins."

This isn't going to be just another fight between former training partners and friends, the way Daniel Cormier's originally scheduled bout against Rashad Evans was to be. The way Cummins talked his way into this fight has infuriated Cormier.

As long as there have been teams, training partners and practice rooms, it's been understood that the ups and downs of training should be kept private. Experienced fighters and fight writers alike have all seen champions get beaten up by unknown teammates in practice only to go out and dominate under the big lights.

To attempt to elevate yourself by discussing private training with a teammate, especially one that has accomplished much more than you have at every stage, is cheap. As Cormier has been quick to point out, practice is different than competition.

More importantly, either revealing or making up stories to trash former teammates and help your own career, is a simple violation of the codes that foster the trust necessary on teams for fighters to get better.

Cummins has said he's fine with bad blood between he and Cormier. After all, they are set to fight one another.

An MMA fight is no real place for warm and feelings between competitors. It is important to remember, however, that there are a lot of Patrick Cummins' out there.

That is, he isn't the only one with a couple unverifiable stories about how he, like, totally beat that world champion guy one day in practice, years ago. Most fighters, however, have enough honor and respect to not try and monetize those stories.

Cummins may have at least temporarily elevated himself by pulling back the veil on old practice sessions, but he's also embarrassed himself by doing so. Those with major accomplishments can let those speak for themselves.

Cummins' talk is also particularly noxious when you consider the circumstances of his practice matches with Cormier. We're not talking about the fact that Cormier was quite literally the man for the U.S. in his weight class and so had to take on Cummins and many others gunning for him day in and day out in preparation for the Olympics.

Sure, that's valuable to understand as it then frames Cummins' supposed domination of Cormier in practice as an analogous situation, perhaps, to some college kid getting a steal off of Michael Jordan in a summer game but then getting lit up for forty points in his rookie season in the NBA by MJ. Cormier did, after all, beat Cummins handily in actual wrestling competition.

"That's the key," Cormier said.

"I was training for the Olympics…Pat's never been 'The Guy.' I was 'The Guy.' Training was focused on me. It wasn't just Pat Cummings that was wrestling me. It was Pat Cummings and everyone else coming in, wrestling me. And also, I was going through a lot of personal issues at the time."

The circumstances we're talking about go beyond the pressure of preparing for an Olympic games as Cormier was and Cummins was not in 2004, however. As Cummins must know full and well, in 2004 Cormier was not only working towards Olympic gold, he was doing so after having recently losing his daughter.

Cormier's life has had more than it's share of tragedy. As a child his father was shot and killed.

Then, while preparing for Athens, Cormier's daughter was killed in a car accident. Did Cormier lose his cool one day in practice while preparing for the Olympics and feeling that pressure added onto unknowable grief from burying a child?

Perhaps he did. It certainly would be understandable.

What Cormier does not appear able to forgive is Cummins cynically leveraging that difficult moment in his life for his own gain. What Patrick "Durkin" Cummins did in order to get his UFC shot was much worse than trade on practice stories - he also traded on the tragedy experienced by a man he was supposed to have been there to help as a teammate in 2004.

Cummins may have opened up old wounds for Cormier a little more than a week before having to fight him. The American Kickboxing Academy coach and fighter is now doubly motivated to earn his first win at light heavyweight.

"You need to be careful with things you're saying," Cormier said to Cummins.

"Things that happened in that wrestling room stay in that wrestling room. So, not only have you crossed the line, you've completely put yourself in my cross hairs. You're not Pat Cummins, the nice kid anymore. You're a guy that I've got to go in that Octagon [and] you're going to suffer for your words.

"You're at a disadvantage against me already and to come and do this now - make it personal...You should never do that."

Cummins has, of course. Cummins will never be able to take those words back, now.

His words may have helped him get an expedited trip to the UFC but who knows if teammates will really ever be able to trust him after he so casually and gleefully broke the code of the training room.

Some things in life are more important than career, money, winning and losing. So, win or lose on Saturday night, hopefully it was all worth it for Cummins.

What may have happened between he and Cormier a decade ago in private may not have stayed in the practice room, thanks to Cummins. Whatever happens between these sudden enemies in Las Vegas Saturday night at UFC 170, however, will certainly not stay in Las Vegas.

It will be on display for all the world to see.

[VIDEO] How Daniel Cormier has dropped weight before UFC 170

(Video via of Shoot Media)

Wrestler Daniel Cormier famously suffered a kidney failure after weighing in for the 2008 Olympic games. Back then, Cormier went about dropping weight all wrong - he walked around entirely too heavy and then essentially underwent a controlled, forced dehydration of dangerous magnitudes.

When he decided to get into MMA, Cormier then also decided to compete at heavyweight. He would be undersized against the behemoths of the division but at least Cormier wouldn't have to cut weight anymore.

This Saturday, Cormier will fight in the co-main event of UFC 170 in Las Vegas and he will do so, for the first time, as a light heavyweight. This time, however, Cormier isn't planning on cutting an extreme amount of water weight before weighing in tomorrow.

Instead, Cormier has spent months making small but crucial adjustments in his nutrition and workout regimen in order to more gradually and healthfully lose weight. He may have gorged on Popeye's chicken for one night last week after learning that his originally scheduled opponent, Rashad Evans, had pulled out with a knee injury, but for the most part, Cormier has been diligent with his new lifestyle.

The folks at Shoot Media recently interviewed Cormier about how he's lost the weight and is now walking around lighter than he has in years. According to "DC", instead of restricting water, he's been drinking two gallons a day and eating four healthy meals each day.

Also, he's put in more "road work" or, running, during this camp. Not only has it helped him drop weight, he says the solitude has helped him focus and stay motivated.

Check out the video above to see what Cormier is eating, drinking, how much and how often and about the changes he's made in his work outs to safely drop weight in advance of his sudden grudge match against Patrick Cummins.

UFC analyst Joe Rogan worried about Anderson Silva's health

While talking to reporters last Saturday night at the post UFC 169 press conference, UFC president Dana White exuded confidence that not only would injured former middleweight champion Anderson Silva return to fighting but that he could do it within a year's time.

"Anderson should be walking without crutches here in the next couple weeks, then he'll start training in a few months. We've got to see how he comes back. He is 100% confident that he's coming back," White said.

Silva completely broke his leg in two places during his UFC 168 middleweight title rematch against champion Chris Weidman last December. "The Spider" is still on crutches.

"He probably won't fight until the end of the year. If everything goes the way that it should, he should be fighting in pretty much the same fight he had this last year," White went on.

The UFC's long time analyst Joe Rogan is not so optimistic about Silva making a speedy recovery. "Maybe. Dana's a promoter," Rogan said on the Opie and Anthony radio program.

"You've got to make sure that it's completely healed up before you check it again. [Opponents] are going to do the exact same thing," Rogan explained.

"Anybody who fights Anderson is going to practice checking kicks like a mother [expletive]. Guys have come back in other sports, but those other sports are very different. They don't involve purposefully trying to break your bones."

Rogan's perspective is a valuable one, given that he's watched perhaps more top MMA fights, up close and personal, than any other person on the planet over the years, and it's a sensible counter balance to White's premature optimism. On the other hand, perhaps Dana was just trying to help keep the spirits up of Silva as he goes through this difficult period healing and recovery.

In either case, Rogan's caution for Silva to consider his health first is good advice for the future hall of famer. Follow Elias on Twitter @EliasCepeda & @YahooCagewriter.

Former Bellator champion Ben Askren to fight for One FC welterweight crown in May

LAS VEGAS – By his own admission, Ben Askren had no clue how to strike when he made his mixed martial arts debut in 2009. It didn't take long for the 2008 American Olympic wrestler to develop a reputation as a boring fighter.

But Askren may have found the spot that will quell those complaints. The former Bellator welterweight champion signed with Singapore-based One FC in December, and will make his debut for the promotion in May.

He'll fight in Singapore for the One FC welterweight title sometime in May – likely May 30 – against the winner of the March 14 title fight in Malaysia between Brock Larson and Nobutatsu Suzuki.

One FC uses the old Pride rules, which permit soccer kicks and knees to the head of a downed opponent, techniques that are banned by the unified rules that are used by the UFC.

A great collegiate wrestler, Askren is all but foaming at the mouth to have the knees available to him. He'll go on at length to dispute the contention that his last two fights, finishes in Bellator title matches over Karl Amossou and Andrey Koreshkov, were boring, but he understands that given his wrestling-heavy style, allowing knees on the ground is a godsend for him.

"I'm excited about the new rules," Askren said. "I torture a lot of the guys in my gym. I'll hold them down and fake like I'm throwing a knee to the head and I'll say to them, 'If we're in Asia, you're screwed right now.' The knees on the ground are going to work beautifully in my style. I've played around with it in the gym and I see at least five or six different ways I can successfully implement that technique, especially."

Askren became a free agent after his win over Koreshkov on July 31, though Bellator had the right to match any offer he received for a year. Askren owns and operates two wrestling camps and has his hand in several other businesses and said he could have afforded to sit out the full year to become a total free agent.

Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney played a game with UFC president Dana White, telling White he'd release Askren free and clear as long as White guaranteed Askren a title shot against then-UFC champion Georges St-Pierre. White scoffed at the offer and insisted he had no interest in Askren.

The sides did have talks, but couldn't reach a deal. Askren spoke with the World Series of Fighting, but opted for the deal with One FC even though he said the offers were very comparable financially.

But Asia's economy is booming and One FC is already available in nearly 1 billion television homes in the region.

He'll fight for the Singapore-based Evolve MMA fight team, but will still train primarily at Roufusport in Milwaukee, Wis.

His striking, he said, is exceptionally better after having worked several years with Roufus, one of the top striking coaches in the world.

His ability to repeatedly take down, and hold down, his opponents has lessened the danger he faces, so it's tactically a wise technique. But his wrestling has hidden his development as a striker, he said.

"Obviously no one ever sees it, but I think my standup is pretty good, actually," Askren said. "A lot of the guys in our gym who are considered good strikers, they would attest to that if you asked them that same question. Obviously, my comfort level on my feet now is through the roof. I know it is very unlikely that anyone is going to stop me from taking them down, but if in fact that does happen, I'm comfortable on my feet. I train with literally some of the best strikers in MMA on a daily basis in the gym, so it's had a huge impact."

When he turned pro, he said, his gym didn't even have a striking coach. He'd learned some jiu-jitsu, and had his wrestling, but he knew nothing about striking.

He was successful largely because of his wrestling, and just 20 months after he turned pro, he defeated Lyman Good to win the Bellator welterweight crown.

"I went to a very high level very quickly and that left me with a lot of tools I didn't have in my arsenal to do what I needed to do," he said. "I was fighting for a Bellator title within two years of starting my pro career and I had a real striking coach for four months."

He'll get his chance to show his improving striking – perhaps – in May when he takes on the Larsen-Suzuki winner.

He said though the knees will give him another valuable weapon, those who are looking for him to get a comeuppance will be disappointed. He is 12-0 and plans to keep that winning streak alive.

"I'm the best damn welterweight in the world, and that's a fact the fans are going to have to deal with," he said. "I'm going to keep winning every fight that is put in front of me, and as a fighter, that's all you can do. You can't go make up match-ups. I can't go, 'Hey GSP, let's go fight in the parking lot of the Hard Rock.' Well, I could, but we'd go to jail and we'd make no money. As a fighter, I can only win the fights that are in front of me.

"I've only had one that was even remotely close. That was the only fight I've lost a round in. I think I've won every other round in my entire career. Not only that, I've trained with a lot of the guys who are in the Top 10 and I know where my skill level is. I'm very comfortable with that."

Rory MacDonald’s Title Request Gets Answered

Rory MacDonald believes his body of work, coupled with a recent victory over Demian Maia, should make him the next challenger to the UFC welterweight title.

The vacant belt will be up for grabs next month when Johny Hendricks collides with Robbie Lawler.

MacDonald’s challenge didn’t go unnoticed by another member of the UFC’s 170-pound division, as Tyron Woodley had an interesting response.

Woodley is set to meet Carlos Condit at UFC 171, the same spot for the Hendricks-Lawler contest.

Douglas Lima vs. Rick Hawn for welterweight title at Bellator 117

bellator mma 117 Douglas Lima vs Rick Hawn 195x300 Douglas Lima vs. Rick Hawn for welterweight title at Bellator 117The Main Event is set for Bellator 117 as Douglas Lima and Rick Hawn will headline a packed night of fights from Iowa’s Mid-American Center on April 18th as the two clash in a Bellator Welterweight Title fight live on Spike TV.

The event will broadcast live at 9 p.m. EST/ 8 p.m. CST on Spike TV. The preliminary card will be streamed live and free on Spike.com beginning at 7 p.m. EST/ 6 p.m. CST. Tickets for the event will be on sale Friday, January 24th and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com, Bellator.com or by visiting the Mid-American Center Box Office.

Lima enters the April 18th showdown riding a four-fight knockout streak including tournament wins over Bryan Baker and Ben Saunders that propelled the Brazilian born knockout artist into his rightful title shot. Just 26, Lima is well aware that now is the time to elevate his game to the next level, and capture his first Bellator Championship.

“This fight with Hawn is going to be very explosive, I think everyone is aware of that,” Lima said. “I really can’t describe how excited I am for this World Title shot. I’m bringing this belt home, and it’s not leaving me for a long time.”

Hawn’s road to a title shot was a unique one, as the TriStar product was a late injury replacement in the Season 9 Welterweight Tournament. Hawn made the most of his opportunity, capturing three wins in the process, including a devastating knockout over Ron Keslar in the Tournament Finals. “It’s great to be back in title contention and going for that belt,” Hawn said. “There is no question Douglas is an incredibly gifted fighter. In terms of his size and skill, this will probably be the toughest fight of my career, and I’m ready for that. I know how exciting this fight is going to be, and I’m just ready for April 18th to get here.”

[VIDEO] Former UFC fighter Keith Jardine stops thief after car chase

Of all the mailboxes in all the towns, a dumb mail thief had to choose former UFC light heavyweight Keith Jardine's to try and rob last Friday.

New Mexico television station KRQE reported Friday that Jardine spotted the thief pulling up in his car at the fighter's Albuquerque home, get out, open his mail box and take off with the contents in his car. Jardine then jumped into his own vehicle and gave chase.

Jardine caught up with the thief, confronted him and subdued him until police arrived on the scene and arrested him. The man, 39 year-old Richard Davenport said that he had been picking up mail for a friend but police discovered that the backseat of his car was filled with mail from a number of different homes.

Check out video of Jardine recounting the incident above.

ONE FC Returns to Manila on May 2; New Signing Yusuke Kawanago Set to Debut

http://www.mmaweekly.com/one-fc-retu...o-set-to-debut

ONE FC recently signed a partnership deal with the SM Mall of Asia Arena, which will see Asia’s biggest MMA promotion hold two events per year at the 20,000-capacity venue in Manila, with the first 2014 event confirmed for May 2.

It will be the fourth time ONE FC has put on an event in the Philippines and the third time the promotion has headed to the brand new SM Mall of Asia Arena. The most recent card there was headlined by a featherweight title fight between Koji Oishi and Honorio Banario, which took place last December.

In a busy news day for ONE FC, it also emerged that 13-3-2 Japanese fighter Yusuke Kawanago was the latest in a spate of recent signings. He is the reigning Legend FC featherweight champion and won the title by beating Rob Lisita by unanimous decision in 2012.

Kawanago is likely to be making his promotional debut in Manila this May and joins a 145-pound division that is currently home to the likes of Eric Kelly, Bruno Pucci, Herbert Burns, Edward Kelly, Lisita and Banario, as well as the reigning champion Oishi.

Also likely to be seeing action at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in May is Filipino flyweight Rey Docyogen, who has finally finished his architectural exams and will be looking to show that he can be a contender in the 125-pound division after suffering a controversial split decision loss to Yasuhiro Urushitani in his most recent fight.

With Ben Askren’s ONE FC debut reportedly booked for Singapore on May 30, it is going to be a busy few weeks for the rapidly expanding promotion, which is set to put on two shows in the space of a single calendar month for the first time in its history

Champ Rockhold calls Larkin attack 'pretty amateur,' eyes early 2013 for return

Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold today told MMAjunkie.com that he never signed a bout agreement to fight Lorenz Larkin and never intended to fight at the promotion's final event.

When officials announced the Jan. 12 event in early November, Rockhold said he informed them a wrist injury lingered and that he was unable to fight.

That's why he's particularly irritated by a series of verbal attacks from Lorenz Larkin regarding his willingness to compete.

Dana White: Benson Henderson won’t get shot at title next

Josh Thomson had his shot at UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis on the line Saturday night in his UFC on Fox 10 main event contest against Benson Henderson. Thomson lost a split decision but fans shouldn't expect Henderson to get the title shot Thomson had coming to him.

"No," UFC president Dana White's answered bluntly when asked if the former champ Henderson had earned another crack at the belt.

A narrow and controversial decision win over Thomson wasn't enough to have fans or White clamoring for a third Pettis vs. Henderson fight. After all, Pettis has decisively beaten Henderson twice already.

"It was way off," White said on FOX Sports Live of the judges' scores.

"You know, at the end of the day, did... I don't know. I mean, it definitely wasn't that wide of a margin. If you had Henderson winning it, it wasn't by that wide of a margin.

“Ben Henderson lost twice to Pettis, the champion, and he got destroyed last fight. He didn’t do anything that’s going to have anybody screaming, ‘Oh, I want to see him get another shot at Pettis.’”

Henderson has said that he'll fight whomever the UFC puts in front of him in order to get back to a title shot. If he's not getting another one next and a rematch with Thomson is immediately out of the question because of "The Punk's" hurt right hand and possible retirement, who do you want to see "Bendo" take on next?

Let us know in the comments section.

Junior dos Santos thinks he and Cain Velasquez will meet in a fourth UFC Title fight, ready to return by May or June

DosSantosJunior_Wide_15.png

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior dos Santos is still awaiting an opponent for a return late this spring, but he's still thinking about working back to yet another fight with Cain Velasquez.

"I think I will meet Velasquez again in a title fight," dos Santos said in an interview with Tatame.com (translated by Fernando Arbex at BloodyElbow.com). "He says I won't but I [think I will], I'm still the number 1=one guy from the [heavyweight rankings]. Of course I won't fight for the belt so soon, but if Cain establishes himself as the champion and I obtain two or three wins, I believe we will meet again."

"He is a guy that I admire a lot. He was knocked out, learned with his mistakes, blocked my game and beat me. Now it's me who is trying to evolve."

First up is getting back in the win column, and dos Santos says he's still targeting May or June to get back in the cage.

"They can book my fight right now," dos Santos said. "In the end of May or beginning of June I would be ready to fight. I need three months to prepare myself and have a nice camp."

Penick's Analysis: Given how thin the ranks are at heavyweight, I wouldn't be surprised to see dos Santos get a fourth fight with Velasquez. It's at least a year and a half and probably more away from being a reality, but it certainly could happen. Dos Santos needs to win a number of fights in a row, and do so convincingly and impressively, to hold his spot as the No. 2 guy in the division and earn one more crack at Velasquez.

Tatsuya Kawajiri returns at UFC Fight Night 39, faces Clay Guida in Abu Dhabi

http://fightsportasia.com/2014/02/14...-in-abu-dhabi/

A Featherweight contest has now been booked for the UFC’s return visit to Abu Dhabi, where the event is scheduled to take place April 11th at the Yas Island venue.

Fan favorite Tatsuya Kawajiri steps back into the Octagon for a second time following a successful debut, while UFC veteran Clay Guida looks to get back in the win column.

Sources close to the Kawajiri camp confirmed the match-up with FSA earlier today.

Tatsuya Kawajiri (33-7-2) who began his journey into Mixed Martial Arts back in 2000, finally signed with the UFC late last year. Having been in the sport for over a decade, Kawajiri fought for some of the sports biggest promotions – Shooto, DREAM, Pride, ONE FC and Strikeforce.

Now the 35-year-old fights under the UFC lights, where he made his promotional debut at the turn of the year defeating late replacement Sean Soriano in the UFC’s first trip to Singapore.

Currently on a 6-fight win streak with five of those coming at 145-lbs, the fighter known as “Crusher” isn’t slowing down anytime soon, eager to test his skills against the best in the world and challenge for the Featherweight gold.

Clay Guida (30-14) of Jackson’s MMA has been around the Octagon since 2006, that’s saw him fight a who’s who of the sport. Having fought his entire career in the Lightweight division, Guida decided to drop down a weight class following back-to-back losses against Gray Maynard & Benson Henderson.

The 32-year-old made his debut at 145-lbs against top Japanese fighter Hatsu Hioki. Guida went on to get his hand raised in a somewhat questionable decision in many peoples eyes.

However, having defeated Hioki, the high-energy Guida would then square off with top contender Chad Mendes. After a fairly one-sided fight, Mendes went onto finish Guida via TKO becoming the first man to ever do so.

Coming off a loss, Guida now turns his attention to 2014 and start things off the right way when he meets fellow wrestler Tatsuya Kawajiri.

*Headlining the card sees the Heavyweights collide, as Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (34-8-1-1) faces Roy Nelson (19-9) in a fight both men are looking to bounce back in having lost their previous outings.

Denis Smoldarev vs. Ante Delija headlines M-1 Challenge 45 on Feb. 28

M 1 Challenge 45 211x300 Denis Smoldarev vs. Ante Delija headlines M 1 Challenge 45 on Feb. 28M-1 Global Heavyweight contender Denis Smoldarev headlines M-1 Challenge 45 on Friday night, February 28 against Ante “Walking Trouble” Delija at Atmosphere Show Hall in St. Petersburg, Russia.

The main event is an intriguing heavyweight showdown between Estonia’s undefeated Smoldarev (5-0-0, 2 KO/TKO, 1 SUB) and Delila (9-1-0, 3 KO/TKO, 1 SUB), who has been billed as the next great Croatian MMA star.

The 6′ 5″, 250-pound Smoldarev, who has a judo and sambo background, was the heavyweight winner of the M-1 Selection Grand Prix. The 24-year-old advanced to the semifinals of the 2013 M-1 Heavyweight Grand Prix but was forced to pull out only two days prior to the fight due to a knee injury. Delila, who stands 6′ 4 ¾” and weighs 230-pounds, is best known for his killer instinct having stopped within the distance all nine of the opponents he has defeated.

M-1 Challenge 45 will air live on Russia 2, the terrestrial channel, throughout Russia and the Commonwealth of Individual States (CIS), as well as across the Middle East on Abu Dhabi Sports Channels.

“This first event of 2014 for M-1 Global kicks off with some great rivalries and important fights to determine who is going to fight for the title,” M1 Global president Vadim Finkelchtein said. “This fight is for the No. 1 Heavyweight contender between two very talented and enormous young prospects. Smoldarev is unbeaten in seven bouts while Delija has only one loss and is considered to be the next big thing in Croatian MMA. Whoever wins is likely to challenge the M-1 Global Heavyweight Champion (champion Damian Grabowski will defend next vs. Marcin Tybura) in the summer.”

M-1 Global is the No. 1 European MMA organization, as well as one of the oldest in the world, dating back to 1998. Superstar Fedor Emelianenko, considered by many to be the greatest fighter in MMA history, has been the face of M-1 Global around the combat sports world for the past decade.

The M-1 Challenge series has traditionally introduced a new wave of potential MMA stars, showcasing elite athletes from Russia and across Europe. Many fighters who fall into the aforementioned category will be showcased on M-1 Challenge 45.

The M-1 Challenge 45 event is stacked from top-to-bottom, featuring five Super Fights to go along with the main event.

M-1 Global lightweight title challenger Nikko Puhakka (28-14-0, 5 KO/TKO, 8 SUB) meets undefeated Russian prospect Maxim Divnich (7-0-0, 4 KO/TKO). Puhakka’s a skilled submission artist with tremendous stamina. He was one of the best Team Finland fighters in the 2009 M-1 Challenge Team Championships. Divnich is a high-regarded kick-boxer who, of course, prefers to fight on his feet.

Tough Spanish welterweight Daniel “The Gladiator” Tabera (17-5-3, 4 KO/TKO, 7 SUB) faces unbeaten Russian sensation Ilya Doderkin (3-0, 3 SUB). Tabera will be making his welterweight debut having previously fought in all weight divisions between middleweight and heavyweight, while Doderkin has achieved status of Master of Sports in Sambo (Russian Federation).

Battle-tested Polish light heavyweight Marcin Zontek (12-8-0, 6 KO/TKO, 5 SUB) will battle 20-year-old Russian striker Rashid Yusupov (2-2-0, 1 KO/TKO, 1 SUB). A past M-1 Global light heavyweight title challenger, Zontek has never been knocked out and he returns to action after a lengthy lay-off due to multiple injuries following his “Best Fight of 2013″ effort against Sergey Korneev. Yusupov graduated to professional MMA after winning top honors in Russian and World Amateur MMA tournaments last year, in which he stopped all of his opponents in the latter competition.

Hot Bulgarian prospect Sotir Kichukov (12-1, 2 KOs, 7 SUB) rides a seven-fight win streak into his match-up with veteran Russian featherweight Yunus Evloev (12-6-0, 4 KO/TKO, 6 SUB). The 23-year-old Kichukov is an outstanding grappler and Maxfight Bantamweight Champion back in his country. The winner of multiple international grappling tournaments, Evloev started his MMA career in 2005 as a lightweight.

A pair of 23-year-old Russian lightweights, Rakhman Makhadzhiev (1-0-0, 1 SUB) and Sergey Andreev (5-2-0, 2 SUB), round-out the M-1 Challenge 45 event. Another standout grappler, Makhadzhiev is dropping down from the welterweight division. He was a 2012 Russian National and European Amateur MMA Champion. Andreev is an aggressive fighter with a solid wrestling base. He won a four-man amateur tournament at M-1 Challenge 41.

All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Junior dos Santos thinks he and Cain Velasquez will meet in a fourth UFC Title fight, ready to return by May or June
