Dustin Porier vs Akira Corassani added to TUF Nations Finale

The UFC just added a bout between two streaking featherweights to The Ultimate Fighter: Nations finale, where Dustin Porier (15-3, 7-2 UFC) will fight Akira Corassani (12-3, 3-0 UFC). Dave Deibert of Postmedia News first announced the bout. While both fighters are on winning streaks, the match up is a bit odd. Porier is number 6 in the UFC rankings, while Corassani is not in the top 15. However, Corassani does bring a 3-fight winning streak into the bout, with wins over Andy Ogle, Robbie Peralta, and Maximo Blaco. Porier, who is nearing title contention, looks to to build off of back-to-back wins over Erik Koch and Diego Brandao.

The “Tuf Nations: Australia vs Canada” finale takes place in Quebec, Canada, on April 16, and is headlined by a bout between top Middleweights Michael Bisping and Tim Kennedy.

The Ultimate Fighter China Finale Official Weigh-In Results

The official weigh-in results for UFC Fight Night: Kim vs. Hathaway are now in, and one fight has been completely removed.

Zak Cummings came in eight pounds over weight, and Alberto Mina declined taking the fight at a catch-weight. The bout was scrapped, with Mina earning his show and win money.

Lyoto Machida wants to fight again soon, willing to fight fellow Brazilians in Jacare Souza and Vitor Belfort

Lyoto Machida is healing up after injuring his foot in a win over Gegard Mousasi earlier this month, but he appeared on Wednesday's UFC Tonight program to discuss what's next for him in the UFC's middleweight division.

"My foot is almost 100 percent now," Machida said. "It's doing ok. I have to recover soon because I want to dance again."

Machida could be getting back into action before a title fight, and if he does a bout with Jacare Souza could be in line. He could also get the winner of Chris Weidman vs. Vitor Belfort, and could face a fellow Brazilian as well if Belfort captures the title. Machida said Wednesday that neither option is an issue for him.

"I have no problem fighting them. I can fight Jacare or Vitor," he said. "I don't know [if I deserve the title fight]. I know I just have two fights at 185 lbs., and Jacare has more, but I can fight against him. I have no problem with that. I don't want to wait for long time. I can do one more fight before I fight for the title."

The former UFC Champ was also asked for his take on the impending Weidman-Belfort bout at UFC 173, and he sees possible victories for each fighter.

"I think the first two rounds, Vitor has a big chance," Machida said. "He's very explosive early. But if it goes longer, Weidman can beat Vitor."

Penick's Analysis: If Machida doesn't want to wait, the UFC could book him against Jacare or another random middleweight. I think the latter makes sense in that they can save Jacare as a contender as well instead of knocking one of them off, but that's also a really interesting fight. It's all in what the UFC wants to do while awaiting Weidman-Belfort.

Bellator signs Champ Alexander Shlemenko to contract extension; four-man middleweight tourney field set for March 28

Bellator has reached an agreement with their Middleweight Champion, Alexander Shlemenko, extending his contract for multiple fights over multiple years.

The organization announced the extension in a press release on Tuesday, and later revealed a four-man middleweight tournament coming to their tenth season here this spring.

"Bellator has been my home for many years, and it's where I want to be," Shlemenko said. "Bjorn made me a promise and he lived up to that promise to provide me with a new deal. I have made a home here at Bellator, and I will continue to represent Russia in my efforts in the cage. I have gained millions of new fans both in the US and in Russia and around the world during my time with Bellator, and I will enjoy being Bellator's longest running champion. I will continue wearing that belt with honor during my time with Bellator, which will now be at the peak of my career."

Shlemenko won the vacant title last February with a knockout win over Maiquel Falcao, and added wins over Brett Cooper and Doug Marshall in the fall. He's won 12 straight fights dating back to a 2010 decision loss to then-Champ Hector Lombard.

"Alexander Shlemenko has been with this organization since its infancy, and has grown into one of the most dominant champions in MMA," Bellator Chairman & CEO Bjorn Rebney said. "I can say without hesitation Alexander has been a large part of the success we have enjoyed over the last five years and as the biggest name in Russian MMA, he's been the catalyst to the largest TV deal in the history of MMA in Russia. It's an honor to have him fight in this organization. I look forward to watching his career continue inside the Bellator cage for years to come."

With their Champion locked up for the next few years, Bellator is moving ahead trying to set up new challengers via their tournament format. The season ten middleweight field will feature four men, with both Marshall and Cooper looking to get back into a rematch with Shlemenko.

Cooper will take on former UFC vet and Ultimate Fighter winner Kendall Grove in the semifinals, while Marshall meets 10-4 Dan Cramer. Those semifinal fights will take place on Spike TV on an event in Utah on March 28.

UFC champ Jon Jones no longer ‘talking junk’ about boxing’s Klitschko brothers

Remember when UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones said last year that he wanted to box one of the Klitschko brothers and thought he could beat them? It was just as crazy an idea as the idea of either of those two boxing giants having a chance against Jones in a mixed martial arts fight.

We thought so. UFC commentator Joe Rogan said so.

Turns out, Jon Jones was just joshing, y'all. Friday, "Bones" fielded questions from fans in advance of tonight's UFC 169 event in Newark.

One fan asked Jones about boxing either Wladimir or Vitali and the UFC champ smiled and chuckled. “Honestly guys, I actually never wanted to box one of the Klitschkos. I was just talking junk," Jones admitted.

"It was fun, it was really fun. But no, I respect those guys so much, what they do is amazing, very high level stuff. I am not trying to get killed. I’ll stick to mixed martial arts.”

Well, there you have it. Perhaps Jones was joking all along or maybe after getting boxed up by Alexander Gustafsson last fall, the young champ got a better understanding of his weaknesses.

Chael Sonnen Looking Towards Return To Middleweight For Next Fight

As usual with Chael Sonnen, he is always looking ahead.

Sonnen, who will face Wanderlei Silva in May at UFC Fight Night Brazil, recently told Combate that he already has his next fight planned out.

“Two things need to happen,” Sonnen said. “There is a fight that will happen and a particular outcome to happen. We also need to get rid of this bum (Silva). There are a few moving parts, but if it happens – and I hope it will on both sides – I have a fight lined (up) (at) middleweight.”

Sonnen didn’t further elaborate who that “opponent” could be. He recently concluded filming The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil alongside Silva, and asked that the match be moved from Las Vegas to the South American country.

The Sonnen-Silva fight is scheduled to take place at light heavyweight, a division both have occupied recently.

It wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense, but don’t you think Sonnen could be positioning himself for a third meeting with Anderson Silva? Possibly in Brazil, for Silva’s return from his broken leg?
