SUNDAY 5/4 AFTERNOON UPDATE
Check out the big update on the App's home page for new notes and information on the changes made to the new mobile site at MMATorch.com in your mobile browser. Our tech team has been working on even more tweaks based on your feedback, and have optimized the site for Safari and the default Android browser. They're continuing to work on the same for both Chrome and Opera as well. Keep sending your thoughts in to mmatorch@gmail.com so we can make the mobile site the best experience for you! We truly appreciate the feedback, and we're making changes as necessary. Here's a rundown of the news that hit the main listing today:
-UFC Featherweight Champ Jose Aldo responded to Conor McGregor's comments this week, essentially writing off the Irish featherweight until he does something substantial in the Octagon. McGregor talks a lot and gets himself attention, but until he beats a top ten guy, he doesn't even need to be on Aldo's radar. Get Aldo's comments with further analysis in the main listing at MMATorch.com in your mobile browser.
-Josh Thomson's Twitter account sent out a heated callout to Nick Diaz early Sunday, but Thomson then deleted it and said his phone had been stolen. While it's easy to believe the first comment could have come from Thomson, even if it was some phone thief it could lead to a fight, and Thomson-Nick Diaz could be fun if it came together. See the initial tweet, with his follow through and commentary in the main listing.
-Chael Sonnen's continued evocation of pro wrestling parlance in his MMA hype played a part in “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 3” filming, and he said this week that he wound up calling on WWE manager extraordinaire Paul Heyman for advice on how to deal with a non-cooperative Wanderlei Silva. It's clear he's tried to play a role, and it led to the opposite role taking effect. His comments on Heyman and more commentary in the main listing.
-Bjorn Rebney commented on the Alexander Shlemenko vs. Tito Ortiz booking this weekend, calling it a "weird, funky, freaky kind of cirque du soleil-esque type of fight.” He's on a major oversell of this fight right now, and the only descriptor here that seems accurate on the fight is “weird.” See his full comment with analysis at MMATorch.com in your mobile browser now.
-UFC women's bantamweight Sarah Kaufman got into a car accident on Saturday night when someone ran a red light and hit her vehicle. She's OK, just a bit sore and a lot pissed off, posting a picture online of the damage. Get more with the pictures of the car in the main listing.
-Finally, our poll this morning asked which of next Saturday's UFC Fight Night 40 bouts in Cincinnati was most intriguing. Unsurprisingly, a vast majority are pretty much just interested in the main event between Matt Brown and Erick Silva, though there's a solid 15% most intrigued by the lightweight bout between Erik Koch and Daron Cruickshank. That's a great fight in its own right. Get your votes in now!
We thank all of our readers for their feedback and patience as we continue making improvements on the new mobile site. We're an independent voice in the MMA space with no corporate backing, and as such we stay afloat on ad revenue. This shift to the full listing on mobile web brings us a better chance to keep ourselves going and to bring our readers everything we have for the last five years and more, as the mobile advertising market is simply stronger than that on the app. Continue sending us your feedback to mmatorch@gmail.com and let us know how the new features with the Disqus comments section and more are working for you on mobile web!
