Shinya Aoki turns down UFC offer, opts to stay with OneFC

Japanese submission ace Shinya Aoki has long been one of the top lightweights in the world.  The 30 year-old is also riding a four fight win streak that got the attention of the UFC.

According to the founder of Evolve MMA, the team and team that Aoki belongs to, Chatri Sityodtong, Aoki recently received and turned down an offer from the UFC to join its ranks.

"The rumors are true. UFC offered contracts to 3 fighters on the Evolve Fight Team: Shinya AokiEddie Ng, and Leandro Brodinho. After careful reflection, Shinya and Eddie have both decided to stay in ONE FC due to more favorable economics," Chatri wrote on his facebook wall.

He went on to post that Leandro Brodinho decided to accept the UFC's offer.

Aoki has an excellent 34-6 record, overall but has not fared as well when fighting in America as he has done in Asia. In 2012, Aoki lost by TKO to Bellator's Eddie Alvarez and in 2010 Aoki lost a lopsided decision to Gilbert Melendez in Strikeforce.
