Vitor Belfort's three straight head kick knockout wins have earned him the UFC Middleweight Title shot he's been seeking.
UFC President Dana White confirmed this week in an interview with FoxSports.com that Belfort will face the winner of the UFC 168 rematch between Chris Weidman and Anderson Silva.
"[Ed] Soares was telling me that Anderson absolutely thinks Vitor deserves another shot," White said. "The next move for him will be Vitor Belfort."
"If Anderson Silva doesn't win this fight, Chris Weidman and Vitor."
That rematch hits pay-per-view in just over two weeks in Las Vegas, with Silva trying to recapture the title he lost in July.
Penick's Analysis: This news will surprise no one, but it's still nice for Belfort to get some confirmation on that front. Given his track record at middleweight and adding another big win over Dan Henderson last month, Belfort's got the results to get another title fight, and there isn't another 185 lb. fighter who has a better argument right now. He'll get his shot, and whether it's a Silva rematch or a fight with Chris Weidman, he's going to be a legitimate challenge.
