Phil Davis replaces Chael Sonnen against Forrest Griffin at UFC 155

UFC officials announced on Friday that Phil Davis has been selected to take on Forrest Griffin at UFC 155. Davis will fill the void left by Griffin’s original opponent Chael Sonnen who accepted an opportunity to coach The Ultimate Fighter 17 opposite of Jon Jones.

The once beaten Davis (10-1) is coming off an impressive second round submission win over Wagner Prado at UFC 153. The fast-rising light heavyweight has notched wins over Alexander Gustafsson, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Brian Stann inside the octagon.

The veteran Griffin (19-7) most recently defeated rival Tito Ortiz at UFC 148 to conclude their trilogy. Griffin has won three of his last four bouts which includes a win over former middleweight champion Rich Franklin.

UFC 155 is the year end event taking place on December 29 in Las Vegas. UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos will defend his title against former champion Cain Velasquez in the main event of the card. In addition, Chris Weidman will square off against Tim Boetsch in a key middleweight bout.
