Middleweight champ Luke Rockhold out of Jan. 12 Strikeforce event

For an event entitled "Champions," Strikeforce's Jan. 12 event is apparently running out of them very quickly.

According to a report by The MMA Corner, Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold has suffered a wrist injury and has been forced to withdraw from the card.

Strikeforce and Showtime officials were unavailable for comment when contacted by MMAjunkie.com, and executives from both companies have yet to make an official announcement. However, sources close to the bout have indicated Rockhold is indeed a scratch.

Production Team Manipulated Wand and Sonnen to Brawl on Set

http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/news...-by-production

According to TUF Brazil 3 coach Jamie Huey, it was the producers who set it up.

“I’ll kind of break something here, that’s not really a story being told," Huey said to TalkingBrawl's Niall McGrath. "Everybody wants to know if that was a set up. Not in regards to Chael or Wanderlei. Kind of something that was being said and done. Which I thought was… production had told Wanderlei, and you can see it after the brawl, Wanderlei goes up to our team and Warlley Alves specifically and says you guys need to watch out for this guy. He’s talking shit about your own team.

"Now production had been telling Wanderlei that Chael had been saying things about our team negatively when they weren’t around. Wanderlei got uh, he was a little, you know, offended by that. It wasn’t true but it was basically something that was said (by) production to Wanderlei to kind of strike up a reaction. I don’t think they thought it was going to go the extreme that it did. And were all being held back on the other side of the door, not knowing what's going on.

"We're getting ready to go to the weigh ins, and the next thing Warlley, Pazzone, and a few other guys bust through the door. I think Dida might have been the first guy to go through the door. And that's when the fight took place. I think it was something that was set up to get a reaction, but inadvertently, nobody knew it was going to go to the extent that it did. I am glad nobody got hurt seriously though."

Huey was asked directly if he believes the production set it up.

“Oh, I know it was," said Huey. "I went out to dinner with a couple of guys and they admitted that it was something that was orchestrated.”

Bellator Champion Reacts To Talk That He Decides Next Contender

Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez has stayed silent long enough, responding to Will Brooks and others via Twitter on Thursday.

Earlier this week, Brooks went on a rant on the social media scene in regards to talk that Alvarez would face Michael Chandler next instead of unifying the belts by meeting him. Brooks defeated Chandler recently after Alvarez suffered a head injury and was forced out.

Reports from Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney himself have indicated that Alvarez – not the promotion – can decide who gets paired up. That’s not exactly how Alvarez sees it.

“I never signed “CONTRACT” it was a “SETTLEMENT,” he posted. “ME and U (fans, friends, etc.), are the same I want what (you) want, tell me (and) I’ll give to ya. Don’t tell just me guys tell Bellator, Bjorn Rebney (I) don’t make fights, I typically end them. ‘The BALL IS in THERE COURT.’

“I’ll never choose usually the fans will voice there opinion to the promoter and I end up getting whoever the crowd chooses.”

He added that it is not “my choice who I fight,” and that if the majority of the fans want to see Alvarez-Brooks, that is “fine by me.”

Alvarez had a lengthy battle with Bellator after his contract expired, as he signed a deal with the UFC. Bellator, though, was allowed to match it and they did, despite some initial hesitation on the wording of the deal. Alvarez and Chandler have met twice, and were set to conclude the trilogy on pay-per-view.

“Whoever’s ranked higher and brings more money (I’ll fight),” he wrote. “Everything else is nonsense.”

Brooks also posted his response to the latest from Alvarez, writing, “I’m with everyone else on this one. Eddie should take the easier fight against me. Take the east W bro and roll out into the sunset.”

It is believed that Alvarez will have the freedom to decide where he fights next – win or lose – after his next bout with Bellator.
