No Bellator Shows Planned for August

It appears Bellator won’t be offering three shows in this year’s Summer Series despite having done so in the past. Last week marked the promotion’s first event in what was recently revealed to be a two-card series where light heavyweight and heavyweight finalists were determined for tilts at top contendership in July. Based on the tournaments’ structure, it seems a third show is not necessary.

MMAJunkie confirmed the change with Bellator officials.

Interestingly enough, Bellator’s rating for Bellator 96 took a massive dive from the organization’s Season 8 run on Spike TV. It is unknown if this affected the decision to reel in this year’s Summer Series.

UFC's Dan Hardy plans future training sessions with St-Pierre, targets spring return

After a four-fight skid that had him thinking about retirement, Dan Hardy's evolution is continuing in the midst of a two-fight resurgence.

The former UFC welterweight title challenger is coming off a stint at Montreal's Tristar Gym to help champion and former nemesis Georges St-Pierre prepare for common opponent Carlos Condit.

And recently, the Brit revealed he is planning to train in the future with St-Pierre and the Tristar crew.

Last UFO Files from UK Gov't Released

Why did the British government shut down its official UFO Desk in 2009?

The truth can now be revealed, as the final cache of documents and UFO reports compiled by the U.K. Ministry of Defence (MoD) has been released to the public.

Apparently, the MoD concluded that operating the UFO Desk was a massive waste of time and money, according to SkyNews. [Ten Alien Encounters Debunked]

An official memo from 2009 to then-MoD Secretary Bob Ainsworth found "no defence benefit" in documenting the alleged UFO sightings: "The level of resources diverted to this task is … diverting staff from more valuable defence-related activities."

After manning the UFO Desk for more than 50 years, the officials found that "no UFO sighting reported to [the MoD] has ever revealed anything to suggest an extraterrestrial presence or military threat to the U.K.," the memo stated.


For sheer comic relief, however, the UFO files may have unprecedented value. In 2007, a man in West Glamorgan contacted the UFO Desk to complain that he "saw spaceships and then saw that one of them abducted his dog, car and tent when he and some friends were out camping," according to the files. MoD officials coolly advised him to contact the local police.

Then, in July 2008, a woman in Coventry saw "two orange balls" hovering over her backyard. She asked the MoD if she and her dog "could be contaminated" by the UFOs.

And in 2009, a schoolgirl from Manchester wrote a letter describing strange lights she saw in the sky, and included her drawing of an alien spacecraft. In response, the UFO Desk sent her a small bag of trinkets and "goodies."

Many of the reported UFO sightings were attributed to the growing popularity of Chinese lanterns (lightweight lanterns that rise through the air, buoyed by burning candlewicks). The lanterns have been blamed for a number of alleged UFO sightings worldwide.

Where did ‘King Mo,’ New York and ‘The Korean Zombie’ fall on Cagewriter’s Hot or Not list?

Who is having a good week in the world of MMA, and who isn't? Check it out in Cagewriter's version of hot or not.

Hot -- "King Mo" Lawal: What's the best way to respond to a knockout loss? Returning with a knockout win. Lawal did that on Wednesday and took out Seth Petruzelli with one punch. Lawal moved on in the Bellator tournament, while Petruzelli decided to retire.

Not -- Bellator ratings: Lawal delivered the memorable knockout, but not that many people watched it live. The ratings from Wednesday's fights were nearly half that of the last Bellator fight, and they got worse for "Fight Master," Bellator's new reality show.

Hot -- "The Korean Zombie:" Chan Sung Jung mentioned last week that Anthony Pettis had cut in line for a shot at the UFC featherweight belt. Pettis suffered a training injury, so now Jung doesn't have to wait for a title shot any more. He's fighting Jose Aldo at UFC 163 in Pettis' place.

Not -- Anthony Pettis: When he suffered the knee injury, Pettis hoped that it wouldn't take too long to heal, and maybe he could slide into UFC 164 and the already-scheduled fight between T.J. Grant and lightweight champion Benson Henderson. Unfortunately, the knee injury will take longer to heal than he had hoped, and he won't be fighting on either pay-per-view card in August.

Not -- New York: The state with the largest city is also the last state to consider professional MMA fighting illegal. MMA's status in New York took a blow this week as the bill to make MMA legal and regulated never made it to a vote.

Still taking temperature -- Invicta FC: After previously showing their fights just through online streaming, the all-women's promotion is making the jump to television pay-per-views. Fans will have the chance to purchase the July 13 event, headlined by Marloes Coenen vs. Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos, via iNDemand, Dish and Avail-TVN for $14.95. Will it work?

Paul Daley One Step Closer To Fighting In The States

Paul Daley’s licensing woes may soon be in his rear-view mirror. The Bellator Welterweight was set to make his debut with the promotion at the beginning of Season 8 when the promotion debuted on Spike, but due to an assault charge that took place in England the fighter was allowed to obtain a visa in order to fight in the states. This left Daley’s and Bellator’s hands tied, and Daley was off taking fights where he could around the world. According to reports, Daley says the charges have been dropped because of the weak nature of the case, and this should pave the way for Daley to be able to fight in the states and finally make his Bellator debut.

Daley told Bleacher Report

“The case was thrown out, lack of evidence and contradicting witness accounts. I’m extremely happy. Applying for my P-1 visa as we speak and hope to return to the USA and Bellator later this year.”
