Anthony Pettis expects clash with Donald Cerrone to come in January
Two of the UFC’s most exciting lightweights are unquestionably Anthony Pettis and Donald Cerrone. Factor in the disdain each feels towards the other, as well as their interest locking horns, and the makings of a future Fight of the Night are clearly in place.
Though Cerrone had hoped the two would battle before the end of 2012, due to some delays in Pettis’ rehabilitation from a shoulder injury he sustained earlier this year it looks like the tilt won’t be taking place until January.
Pettis confirmed the expected date in a conversation with MMAJunkie after going on Twitter to express his frustration with the recovery process where he wrote, “Can’t catch a break…injuries f—— suck!!!”
When the talented 155ers do eventually face off the stakes will be higher than usual with the winner expected to merit discussion for a title-shot. Cerrone has found success in eight of his last nine fights including back-to-back victories over Jeremy Stephens and Melvin Guillard. Meanwhile, the 15-2 Pettis is also coming off consecutive wins including a February finish of Joe Lauzon and holds a past triumph over current lightweight champion Benson Henderson.

Jose Aldo Vs. Frankie Edgar Targeted For UFC 156 In Brazil

At UFC 153, we were set to see a short notice superfight between UFC featherweight king, Jose Aldo, and the recently dethroned lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar. Unfortunately, that fight fell through, but now it seems we may see them face off in Brazil at UFC 156.
On October 13, 2012, we saw one of the greatest fighters on the planet completely destroy Stephan Bonnar in the headline fight at UFC 153. Though that fight in itself was a nice little treat for fight fans, it was a result of a super fight falling through, a bout that was supposed to feature Jose Aldo defending his featherweight crown against Frankie Edgar.
Now, as reported by Brazilian website clicrbs, that matchup is being sought out yet again by the UFC, and it is likely for UFC 156 in Brazil.
Details on the event have yet to emerge, but it is expected to be a major Brazilian show in a high-profile city. The event is likely to occur in January of 2013. So far, Aldo vs. Edgar has been the only bout rumored for the card, but seeing how great recent Brazilian cards have been, I'd expect it to fill out quickly.
Aldo (21-1, 3-0 UFC) has been the featherweight champion since joining the promotion after the WEC was merged into the UFC. He is highly regarded as one of the best fighters around today, and is definitely within the top five of the pound-for-pound rankings.
His last appearance inside the Octagon featured a first-round shellacking of Chad Mendes at UFC 142 in Brazil. Aldo is known for his vicious Muay Thai attack, but he is well versed in the other components of MMA, which makes him a formidable opponent.
Edgar (14-3-1, 9-3-1 UFC) has fought his entire career at lightweight, with his most recent fights being back-to-back losses to Ben Henderson for the lightweight title. Though both fights were hotly contested, Edgar came up short on the judges' scorecards in both affairs, and he's now decided to test himself at featherweight.
Edgar is a terrific wrestler with a well rounded game, and he uses his speed to stifle opponents standing. He is known for a fast-paced style as well as undying heart, which has carried him through some tough spots in his fights. He'll be in his first ever featherweight fight against Aldo, and it is sure to be a terrific affair.

Dan Henderson says Chael Sonnen’s title-shot “degrades the sport of MMA”
When Dan Henderson returned to the UFC after a few years in Strikeforce he entered the organization with a divisional belt in tow and an opening round knockout of heavyweight great Fedor Emelianenko. He then came out winner in a Fight of the Year candidate with Mauricio Rua, cementing his position as the top contender to Jon Jones’ light heavyweight crown.
Though an injury forced Henderson out of a scheduled scrap with Jones, most felt he would still be next in line for “Bones” given his accomplishments and status as a legitimate legend. However, as fans learned this week, Chael Sonnen was pegged for the honor instead despite having never won in the UFC as a light heavyweight and suffering a strike-based stoppage in his previous bout.
Understandably, the UFC’s decision to award Sonnen for talking trash instead of stringing together wins didn’t sit well with Henderson who took to Twitter and let his opinions be known.
“I guess I should just quit training to win fights and to be exciting for the fans and just go to sh*t-talking school,” wrote the hard-hitting icon. “I will always (have) love for Chael and don’t blame him for saying yes to a big opportunity. Giving him that fight now degrades the sport of MMA.”

Sonnen’s name first came up in connection with Jones when he volunteered to fill the vacancy created by Henderson’s health-related woe with only a week to prepare for the pairing. His boldness coupled with the stream of smack he spewed directed at Jones in the wake of the 25-year old champion turning the fight down ultimately inspired the UFC to give him a crack at the gold without actually deserving it based on performance.

TweetUFC 155 adds Pickett-Wineland, Koch-Lamas, Perez-Bloodworth
Koch (13-1) and Lamas (12-2) will square off in a featherweight battle with title shot implications. Koch, riding a four fight winning streak, was scheduled to face featherweight champion Jose Aldo at UFC 153 before injuries derailed the bout. Lamas has won all three of his fights since transitioning from the WEC. He most recently scored a unanimous decision win over Hatsu Hioki at UFC on FX 4.
Wineland (19-8-1), the former WEC bantamweight champion, recently earned his first win inside the octagon. He scored a second round knockout of former title challenger Scott Jorgensen at UFC on FX 3. Pickett (22-6) has notched back-to-back impressive finishes. He submitted Damacio Page at UFC on Fuel TV 2 then knocked out Yves Jabouin in his last outing at UFC on Fuel TV 5.
Perez (12-4) will enter his bout against Bloodworth (6-2) on a roll having won seven consecutive fights. Perez, who trains at Jackson’s MMA, last competed at UFC 150 where he defeated Ken Stone by knockout in just 17 seconds. Bloodworth will look for his first win in the UFC in his second outing. He suffered a second round technical knockout loss to Mike Easton at UFC Live 6 in October 2011.
UFC 155 takes place from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on December 29th. The event is headlined by a heavyweight title fight between champion Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez.

Bellator 79 lineup hit hard with losses of Paul Daley, Eduardo Dantas
MMAFighting confirmed the status of both fighters with Bellator officials. According to the report, Daley ran into some trouble acquiring a visa to travel to the event meaning he’s at least healthy enough to make up for the cancelled clash at some point in the immediate future.
Daley (30-12-2) made his Bellator debut in July, stopping Rudy Bears with strikes a little more than halfway through the opening round of action. The win was the 21st TKO of his career, adding to victories over the likes of Duane Ludwig and Martin Kampmann.
Dantas’ shocking loss to Tyson Nam snapped a seven-fight winning streak for the 23-year old title-holder. The 14-3 competitor would have been defending his bantamweight belt for the first time since winning it from Zach Makovsky with Marcos Galvao playing the role of top contender.
Bellator 79 will still feature a heavyweight semifinal between Thiago Santos-Richard Hale, as well as a featherweight semifinal featuring Mike Richman-Shahbulat Shamhalaev and appearances from Douglas Lima/Ryan Ford.
