Gustafsson thinks he's in Jones' head

Jon Jones extended his amazing light heavyweight title defense win streak to seven at UFC 172 with a dominant decision victory on Saturday night over Glover Teixeira, winning every round in the eyes of the judges.
But the No. 1 contender to Jones' light heavyweight title, Alexander Gusafsson, didn't seem too impressed when he appeared on the MMA Hour Monday morning to talk about Jones' performance and a potential rematch with the champ.
"I think he did enough to win the fight," Gustafsson told MMAFighting's Ariel Helwani. "He looked good, he looked great. He was dominating Glover from the be ... Read the Full Article Here

MMATORCH APP TODAY - MONDAY NIGHT EDITION 4/21: Nurmagomedov eyes Cerrone, Diaz, Grant, and title fight; MMA apparel company offers $5K to future Rousey opponents; White willing to give Cruz a shot at Barao

MONDAY 4/21 NIGHTTIME NEWS UPDATE

-Just a few more updates from our main listing from tonight at MMATorch.com. You can check out everything throughout the day as it happens by visiting our site on your mobile web browser, as our new mobile-version of the site has been specially designed for iPhones, iPads, Android phones, and Android tablets! You can easily bookmark the site for quick access from your phone or tablet home screen!

-Khabib Nurmagomedov, who defeated Rafael dos Anjos on Saturday for his sixth straight UFC win, is looking for a shot at the UFC Lightweight Championship. As that's not in the cards until 2015, Nurmagomedov also says he's up for an autumn matchup with either Donald Cerrone, Nate Diaz, or T.J. Grant. Those are all intriguing fights, and I have further thoughts on the likelihood and timing of them in the main listing now!

-UFC Champ Ronda Rousey recently drew further criticism after referring to Cris “Cyborg” Justino as an “it” in an interview. It's the type of comment that would lead to serious fines from an athlete in the NFL or another professional sport, so the UFC's lack of response led to further frustration in some circles. One of those was MMA apparel company Americana MMA, who so disagreed with Rousey's comments and the lack of response from the UFC that they've offered $5,000 to the first women's bantamweight to knock Rousey out in a fight. This has led to a number of reactions, with Americana MMA themselves needing to further clarify their intent. Catch up with the issue along with my analysis at MMATorch.com in your web browser!

-Our final update tonight concerns former UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz, who still doesn't have a return date scheduled. UFC President Dana White said that he'd give Cruz a fight with Renan Barao upon his return if that's what he wanted, but advised against it given the lengthy layoff. I don't think Cruz should be anywhere near a fight with Barao at this point, not when he's coming closer and closer to a full three years between fights. White's full quote on the matter and further commentary on the main site now!

MMATORCH APP TODAY - TUESDAY MORNING EDITION 4/29: Jones gets in shots at Davis and Liddell; Mighty Mouse wants to make money; Joe Ellenberger rebooked; poll results

TUESDAY 4/29 MORNING NEWS UPDATE

Check out the big update on the App's home page for new notes and information on the changes made to the new mobile site at MMATorch.com in your mobile browser. Our tech team has been working on even more tweaks based on your feedback, and have optimized the site for Safari and the default Android browser. They're continuing to work on the same for both Chrome and Opera as well. Keep sending your thoughts in to mmatorch@gmail.com so we can make the mobile site the best experience for you! We truly appreciate the feedback, and we're making changes as necessary. Here's a quick look at what hit the site this morning:

-Jon Jones received a lot of trash talk from Phil Davis, and some from Chuck Liddell, among others, into his bout with Glover Teixeira last Saturday at UFC 172. As he dominated his main event fight – and Davis himself got beat handily by Anthony Johnson – Jones had some room to gloat, and he did just that on Instagram, taking a few probably deserved shots at both Liddell and Davis. See the posts with further commentary in the main listing.

-UFC Flyweight Champ Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson has been picking up his wins and successfully defending his title, but now he's looking forward to the other benefits of being a top fighter in the sport. In a recent interview, Johnson said he's focusing on making money and trying to become a superstar in 2014, both things I think he deserves at this stage. Get his comments with analysis at MMATorch.com in your mobile browser now!

-Joe Ellenberger's UFC debut will now come at UFC Fight Night 44 in San Antonio in June, after two different opponents fell out for last weekend's UFC 172 card. He'll now meet undefeated lightweight Francisco “Frank” Trevino. Get info on both fighters in the main listing.

-Continuing on our theme of the week, we asked readers this morning which of the top light heavyweight contenders will be the one to beat Jon Jones: Alexander Gustafsson, Daniel Cormier, Dan Henderson, Anthony Johnson, Rashad Evans, or none of them at all. 34% went with “none of the above,” while 32% think Gustafsson's the man. Another 21% pin it on Cormier right now, with Anthony Johnson receiving 11% of the vote. Add your votes in now!

We thank all of our readers for their feedback and patience as we continue making improvements on the new mobile site. We're an independent voice in the MMA space with no corporate backing, and as such we stay afloat on ad revenue. Michael Bisping goes off on Tim Kennedy at presser

Tim Kennedy and Michael Bisping will finally square up in the main event of the TUF: Nations Finale UFC card on Wednesday. As you may have read on our pages here at Yahoo! Sports, Bisping and Kennedy have engaged in verbal warfare leading up to their bout.

When the two middleweights faced-off Monday at the pre-event press conference, Bisping showed that all the trash talk had gotten to him and spouted a slew of profanities at Kennedy. Kennedy, who as a U.S. special forces war veteran, has had much more stressful moments than an un-armed loud mouth shouting at him, just smiled throughout.

Watch video of Bisping losing his cool below. The language is absolutely not safe for work, unless you have a colorful workplace so, make use of those ear buds, bud.

UFC interim champ Renan Barao's coach prefers title shot, but doesn't want to wait

Barao coach Pederneiras would prefer title shot, but doesn't want fighter to wait

Nova Uniao leader and coach Andre Pederneiras on Wednesday told MMAjunkie.com he's waiting on UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby's call to tell him when and where UFC interim bantamweight champ Renan Barao is fighting next.

"If I had a choice, I would rather Renan fight Dominick (Cruz), but I don't want to wait too long," Pederneiras said.

UFC's Mike Brown - 'I don't think I'll fight again.'

UFC featherweight Mike Brown recently pulled out of a scheduled April 19 bout with Estevan Payan because a nagging and serious neck issue had flared up again. While the former world champ is reluctant to use the "R" word, retirement, he says that he likely won't ever fight again.

“I don’t think I’ll fight again,” Brown told MMAjunkie. “I haven’t retired, just in case, because I don’t want to be a guy who walks away and comes right back.”

“I accepted it like seven weeks out, but my neck was kind of bothering me and it’s too much on my neck,” Brown detailed.

“I was training and in good shape, but then I started losing some strength in my hand again. When I get banged in the head some of my grip strength goes away and it’s just a reoccurring injury.”

In a game where you get hit in the head daily, not being able to take those hits anymore should pretty much be a game-ender. Brown's neck issue clearly has to do with disc and nerve issues, resulting in the temporary loss of full use of his left hand.

“It’s hard when you’ve got only one hand that’s working properly. I can’t hold onto anything with my left. If I try to grab somebody’s wrist they can easily pull away because my strength is gone. Usually in a month or two, that strength comes back, but if I bang my head and get a stinger, it goes away again. It’s just continuously active," he explained.

Brown, who won and retained the featherweight world title by beating Urijah Faber twice, currently coaches other fighters at American Top Team in Florida. He feels fortunate to already have that role to transition into fully should he never himself personally compete in MMA again.

“Coaching is something I’ve always wanted to do since I was younger,” Brown said.

“I wanted to coach pro fighters, high-level guys because I love the fight game. I got lucky to be at ATT doing what I love. I would do it for free, and I’m really lucky to do what I do.

“I’m lucky I’m at American Top Team. I’m already in coaching, so I’ll be right into a coaching role and staying involved in the sport and doing what I love.”

Brown is one of the greats and we here at Yahoo! Sports wish him health and happiness in whatever comes next in his life and career.
