WSOF Fighter Profile: Anthony Johnson

Never before has a fighter so dramatically missed weight on multiple occasions, yet somehow managed to remain employed in the industry – and even successful. But therein lies the charm of Anthony “Rumble” Johnson, who was an overgrown welterweight in the UFC until he could no longer make that weight class, or even the weight class above that one. Nowadays, Johnson’s home is among the 205-pound fighters (his rightful home apparently), and one Saturday night he will be one half of the co-main event for the World Series of Fighting‘s eighth show.

Here’s what you need to know about Johnson, in easily-digestible form.

  • His overall record is 15-4, and in 11 UFC appearance, he went 7-4.
  • Notable wins include a KO over Yoshiyuki Yoshida at UFC 104, a decision over Dan Hardy at UFC Fight Night 24, and a decision over Andrei Arlovski at WSOF 2.

  • Notable losses include submissions at the hands of Vitor Belfort, Josh Koscheck and Rich Clementi, all of which were via rear naked choke.

  • Rumble’s first fight was on August 16, 2006 at a Hollywood, C.A. fight promotion called Pangea Fights.
  • His last fight was on March 23, 2013 against Arlovski.
  • Of his 15 wins, 10 were by some form of KO and five were by decision. The Blackzilian fighter has no wins via submission.
