War veteran Caros Fodor finds peace through MMA
From an early age, Carlos Fodor knew he wanted to be a soldier.
“I grew up watching a lot of movies like Missing in Action and Rambo,” Caros remembers with a smile.
“When I was 12, I decided that I would go into the Marines. Once I hit high school, I recruited like five friends to enlist with me. I got my mom to sign the waiver to let me join when I was 17 and right after graduation, I enlisted.”
Fodor imagined a long and productive career for himself that would, one day, doubtlessly include combat. He didn’t expect for war to come so soon, however.
Fodor was still 17 and in boot camp on September 11, 2001, but there would be no slow track.
He was soon activated and deployed to the Middle East.
“I wanted to go to the military and get the whole experience,” he remembers.
“Eventually at some point in my career I imagined I’d see combat but I definitely didn’t expect it that soon. No one did. My mom signed the waiver on the agreement with me that I’d become a reservist first, get my college degree and then go active duty and start my career.”
Fodor soon found himself in Kuwait and, by the time the United States was set to invade Iraq in 2003, he joined many other young men and women on the frontlines there.
“They moved us up to the border [of Iraq] on March 17 and we were invading on March 19,” he details.
Over the course of what would be six years in the Marines, Caros realized that war was a lot different than what he’d been led to believe by the movies he watched growing up. Fodor wanted to be a good guy, a hero who fought for what is right.
War, he learned, complicates matters.
“Movies are a lot different than reality,” he says.
“For one, there’s a lot of action in the movies with everybody doing something all the time. In reality, there’s a lot of down time. More than that, though, you see that other things are different, you start to think. Bombings are not as accurate as you think they will be. You don’t realize that there are a lot of civilian casualties. You see the effect you have on a country and the trash you leave behind. You see how people are treated.
“I didn’t even know why we were in Iraq. I didn’t follow the news leading up to the invasion so I didn’t know why we were there. I knew it had nothing to do with 9/11, but when they said we were going over there we went along with it. When you’re in it, you see the impact of war on people. You see a country destroyed and ripped apart. Civilian casualties opened my eyes to the reality.
“You also realize that there are a lot of games played. A lot of people who were more stupid than you are in charge of your life and decide where you go and what you do. They have control over you and have you going into [expletive] situations. Of course, some people are great and I still love them. The actual experience just opened my eyes a lot more to it."
Fodor realized that he could not make a career out of military service. The realization that his life-long dream was dead was a tough one for the young man to come to terms with.
“A career in the military is for some people and the military is a great thing. I was a punk when I went in and it really changed me,” Fodor says.
“But the people you sometimes have to listen to while in it and the realization that we are not always getting the bad guys changed things for me.”
The transition back to civilian life after all he had seen and done was not an easy one for Fodor, either. Once back home, a bitter and confused Fodor dove into alcohol, became violent and suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms.
“I was drinking a lot, I started to get into a lot of fist fights,” he says of his early days back stateside.
“I think it was a combination of where I was at in my life coming straight back from there. I had mixed feelings. I was really upset at things over there, the things I saw. Then I would see other people living their normal lives. You get angry that you had to go through that.
“I did have nightmares, like a lot of military vets. You start drinking to help yourself sleep and then I started drinking way too much. When you’re drunk you tend to be violent. My friends and me would go out and fight almost every weekend. I shouldn’t be here now. It only lasted a couple years but the things I did, I shouldn’t be here. I’m glad I made it through.”
Finding and training in MMA helped Caros make it through that dark time.
Caros says that he and his friends first walked into a fight gym for all the wrong reasons. They thought they could make the street fights they were instigating go much more smoothly if they learned how to actually fight.
After actually experiencing what MMA had to offer, the training became something much different for Fodor. Ultimately, it would replace the dream career that he had lost in the military.
“We were having these knock-down, drag-out, long street brawls and so we thought that if we learned to fight we could just knock these guys out and walk away,” Fodor laughs.
Fodor and his friends took their bad intentions and happened to wander into one of the world’s elite fight gyms, AMC Pankration, in the Seattle area.
“I thought I was the [expletive] when I walked in there,” Fodor chuckles.
“Then you go in there you get humbled. I got my ass kicked but also found that all these guys, these pros like Ivan Salaverry and Josh Barnett who could easily destroy me, were so nice. They are just great leaders and great examples of people to emulate. Being around them for a while changed me. I had one street fight within six months of starting at AMC and since then I haven’t had another one.”
Fodor had many more fights since then, of course. They just came in rings and cages as a part of sanctioned sport competition. Fodor took the brotherhood, discipline and skills offered at AMC Pankration and ran with it - to the tune of an impressive 8-3 professional record and appearances in the world’s top fight organizations like Strikeforce and the UFC.
The lightweight is once again taking his warrior spirit abroad, fighting for top Asian MMA promotion OneFC. Fodor won his OneFC debut in September.
The fighter gives the new promotion high marks so far. “They really take care of their fighters,” he says.
“They are so nice, organized, respectful. My coach Matt Hume runs a lot of it as well so that helps because he was a fighter and he knows how to treat fighters.”
At just 29 years old, Fodor has fought more than his more than his share of battles. He’s never had a problem jumping into a fight, but now he appears on his way to winning the war within as he fights only the fights he deems worthy and tries to live a healthy life.
In addition to Rambo films, Fodor says he grew up watching Rocky flicks.
Pro fighting isn’t exactly like what it appears to be in the movies, either, but so far it’s doing the trick for Caros.
“I loved Rocky,” he says.
“Watching those movies as a kid, I always knew that fighting is something I’d do at least once. I’m so glad to be able to make a career out of it now.”
Caros lost a decision Friday to Vuyisile Colossa on the "OneFC: Moment of Truth" card in the Philippines.

UFC’s Chris Weidman: I was extremely bullied, hospitalized as child
Chris Weidman made headlines this year when he beat Anderson Silva and became the UFC middleweight champion but in a new interview filmed by Bobby Razak the fighter revealed that he may have overcome his biggest challenges long ago, as a child.
"I was severely bullied," Weidman said.
"I didn't really even think about it as bullying up until a year or two ago when I gave an anti bullying speech, and I realized holy crap I was really badly bullied."
The wrestler's brother, a neighborhood tough, was often the one bullying Weidman.
"I grew up in a decently tough neighborhood," he explained.
"My brother definitely had a history of beating me up and abusing me...I grew up getting bullied and fighting a lot. My brother was probably one of the toughest kids from my neighborhood and he didn't make it easy on me. He made sure I was getting beat up as much as possible growing up. If he wasn't beating me up, he was making his friends beat me up. He threw a 10 pound weight on my head because I wouldn't get him a cookie. [It] split plit my forehead open pretty good."
Despite the trauma, Weidman says he was grateful for the adversity because it helped make him the man he is now.
"I think any type of setback you have, any tough time you've got, getting through it is what makes you who you are. It makes you a tougher person," he said.
"I think whatever you've been through in your life makes you a tougher person. I'm very grateful for the background I have, every tough situation I've been through because it's made me who I am."
Check out the rest of the interview, including Weidman's story on how he broke his collarbone in the woods only to have his brother line up friends to punch him afterwards and then walk home, as well as about the day his brother brought other kids who wanted to beat Chris up, into their home, locked him in his room and beat him up together, in the video above. There's also descriptions of other horrible crap Weidman's brother did.
The kid sounds like he was a monster.
Weidman rematches Anderson Silva this Saturday at UFC 168 when he defends his middleweight belt for the first time.

Jon Jones Pays Tribute to Anderson Silva, Believes ‘The Spider’ is Done Fighting
It was the fantasy fight that never was. Now that Anderson Silva’s mixed martial arts career is seemingly over, the man that could have co-starred opposite Silva in the biggest fight MMA had to offer is paying homage to the game’s GOAT.
Reigning UFC light heavyweight king Jon Jones (pictured), who will now be called upon to carry the UFC into the next generation, took to Twitter Sunday to praise Silva for everything he has done for the sport.
“Just want to thank Anderson Silva for the years of entertainment and inspiration,” Jones tweeted. “Pain is temporary, your legacy will be talked about for generations. Congratulations on achieving greatness. Honored to have been a witness.”
Neither Silva nor the UFC have announced if the most decorated champion in Octagon history will in fact retire following the horrific broken leg he suffered Saturday against middleweight champ Chris Weidman at UFC 168, but it’s hard to believe the 38-year-old would want to return when he has nothing left to prove at this stage of his illustrious career.
At the same time, what would he even look like with one less weapon in his arsenal at his advanced age?
When Jones was asked if he thought Silva was done, “Bones” said Silva’s days inside the cage were over, but the charismatic Brazilian has plenty of other options to choose from.
“Fighting? yes. Career wise? [Sky's] the limit,” Jones stated.
Silva owns a 33-3 professional record. He holds UFC records with 10 consecutive title defenses and 16 straight wins prior to getting knocked out by Weidman in July.

UFC 168 Bonuses: Ronda Rousey doubles up, Travis Browne earns extra $75K
|
By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief
Ronda Rousey probably had the best night of any fighter at UFC 168 on Saturday night, as she notched a double "Fight Night" bonus in addition to dispatching her rival, Miesha Tate.
Rousey took home bonuses for "Fight of the Night" and "Submission of the Night" for her third round armbar win over Tate, the second time she's finished the former Strikeforce Champ with that maneuver. Tate's defense made the fight into something larger than their first, as she made Rousey dig deep through an exciting first and second round.
But then, in the third, Rousey finished the fight in the manner all her fights had ended before, by armbar. The UFC rewarded that effort in two areas, giving them each $75,000 for that "FotN" honor and Rousey an addition $75K as well.
"Knockout of the Night" was another clear choice for the UFC on Saturday, as Travis Browne's first round KO over Josh Barnett was a shocking finish. Browne caught Barnett with a brutal knee as the "War Master" shot in, and then unleashed a hellacious flurry of elbows at the cage that put Barnett out cold.
The $75,000 bonuses were up from most of the events this year, which had almost uniformly paid out $50,000 for each of them.

Jim Miller vs. Fabricio Camoes
Dustin Poirier vs. Diego Brandao

CONFIDENCE PICKS GAME AND RULES
1. UFC 168 is a 11 fight card. Therefore, the point values you assign must range from 11 (most confident) down to 1 (least confident).
2. Additionally, please list your prediction for method of victory, along with the round. Choose either TKO, KO, SUB, UD (Unanimous Decision) or SD (Split Decision).
3. Using UFC 167 as a template, here is how a simple entry might look:
12 - St-Pierre - UD
11 - MacDonald - TKO2
10 - Evans - TKO1
09 - Donovan - UD
08 - Pettis - SUB3
07 - High - SD
06 - Koscheck - UD
05 - Cerrone - KO1
04 - Elliott - UD
03 - Leites - UD
02 - Perez - SUB2
01 - Ebersole - UD
4. When you email me your entry, please sort the entry numerically (as shown) from high to low. Thanks.
5. The first tie-breaker is the sum of confidence points. Using the examples above, a Georges St-Pierre victory would earn 12 points. Brian Ebersole winning would earn just 1 point, etc.
6. If two participants earn the same number of confidence points, the next tie-breaker will be the total number of winners predicted. If Player A earns 40 points on 7 winning picks, and Player B earns 40 points on 6 winning picks, Player A would be declared the winner.
7. The next tie-breaker is the number of victory methods predicted correctly. Next would be predicted rounds of victory. If both players are still tied at this point, both players will be declared the winner. If the tie is for a championship, they would match up again at the next event, along with the winner of the pool. If the tie occurs in the pool itself, both challengers would advance to face the champion at the next event.
BETTING GAME AND RULES
Here are the UFC 168 betting lines courtesy of 5Dimes:
Anderson Silva: -150
Chris Weidman: +130
Ronda Rousey: -800
Miesha Tate: +550
Josh Barnett: -190
Travis Browne: +165
Jim Miller: -360
Fabricio Camoes: +300
Dustin Poirier: -235
Diego Brandao: +195
Uriah Hall: -280
Chris Leben: +200
Gleison Tibau: -160
Michael Johnson: +120
Dennis Siver: -260
Manvel Gamburyan: +180
Siyar Bahadurzada: -140
John Howard: +100
Bobby Voelker: -180
William Macario: +140
Robbie Peralta: -195
Estevan Payan: +155
8. Using UFC 167 as a template again, here is how a simple entry might look:
$450 on Cerrone
$300 on Perez
$50 on Ebersole
$200 Parlay on Cerrone, Perez and Ebersole
9. Every player has $1000 of fake, imaginary, theoretical, play money to wager on each event. This is not a real money game, it is strictly for fun.
10. Players must place a bet of at least $50, but no more than $500, on each of 3 or more different fighters. Bets may be in any denomination, as long as the amount falls in the range of $50 - $500.
11. Players may also play a parlay bet. A parlay bet is a bet placed on multiple fighters. All fighters in the parlay must win their fights in order for the parlay to pay off. Parlay bets pay off at a higher rate than a bet on a single fighter. The parlay bet may be placed on either two or three fighters.
12. The minimum parlay bet is $50. The maximum parlay bet is $200. This money comes out of the $1000 alloted to each player. The parlay bet is NOT separate from the $1000 budget. A player is not required to play a parlay bet. The maximum number of parlay bets a player may wager is one.
13. Whether or not a player chooses to place a parlay bet, the player must still place at least three straight bets. It is not legal to place two bets on individual fighters and one parlay bet. No entry is considered valid unless there are a minimum of 3 straight bets placed on individual fighters.
14. If a fight ends in a draw, any money bet on said fighter will be refunded, with no fake money commission taken. If a fighter in a 3-fighter parlay is involved in a draw, that fighter will be removed from the parlay and the 3-fighter parlay will be treated as a 2-fighter parlay. If a fighter in a 2-fighter parlay is involved in a draw, that fighter will be removed from the parlay and the 2-fighter parlay will be treated as a straight bet on the remaining fighter.
FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS
15. If a fighter has a positive number such as +150 next to his name, he is the underdog, which means a successful bet on that fighter will pay off at a higher rate. That means that if the fighter wins, the bet will payout $150 net profit for every $100 bet on him. If a player were to bet $500 on a +150 fighter, and the fighter wins, the player will profit $750. If a player bets $500 on a +150 fighter, and the fighter loses, the player will lose his $500 bet.
16. If a fighter has a negative number such as -200 next to his name, he is the favourite, which means a successful bet on that fighter will pay off at a lower rate. That means that if the fighter wins, the bet will payout $100 net profit for every $200 bet on him. If a player were to bet $500 on a -200 fighter, and the fighter wins, the player will profit $250. If a player bets $500 on a -200 fighter, and the fighter loses, the player will lose his $500 bet.
Structure for each game
17. For each UFC numbered (or listed otherwise) event, both the Confidence Picks and Betting Game will feature a champion and a challenger facing off against one another. The winner of the head to head battle will be declared the reigning champion.
18. All other players for each UFC numbered (or listed otherwise) event will compete against each other for the right to face off against the reigning champion at the next UFC numbered event. This is known as The Pool.
19. As games administrator, I have the subjective right to eliminate any entry for any reason I deem worthy.
20. Entries may be submitted via email (dannymoore100@hotmail.com), or on the comment section of this post. Email is the preferred method, because if a player posts an invalid entry, I have no way to make sure I can get hold of the player so that it may be corrected. Please, under no circumstances should you both email and post on the board your entry. One or the other please, preferably via email.
21. If you have any questions, please email me and ask.
Final Note
22. A player does not need to play both games during each event. Players may choose to submit an entry for one game or the other, or for both, at their own choosing.

Anderson Silva & Chris Weidman look toward Dec. 28 rematch
Long time UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva looks back at his shocking KO loss to Chris Weidman this past summer and sees only "basic mistakes" that led to his defeat.
"My mistakes in that fight, and that’s the first time I’m saying this, were basic mistakes," Silva recently told Sportv, according to Brazilian reporter Guilherme Cruz.
"I did everything I had to do except hit him. I didn’t counterattack. When I stopped with my feet parallel, I should have hit him and walked one step behind. I didn’t do that. I saw my mistakes and I’m working on that to train for this next fight."
Of course, before Silva got knocked out on his feet in the second round by Weidman, he got dominated in the first round because of his opponent's take downs and top-game Jiu Jitsu. If "The Spider" is fortunate enough to get Weidman in a stand-up fight when they rematch Dec. 28 at UFC 168, he says he'll make quick work of the new champion.
"It’s going to be a tough fight," he said, "and it won’t last too long if it stays standing."
For his part, Weidman is still acting the part of a hungry challenger.
"I wish I could sit back and relax and I feel like I’ve accomplished my goal, but I gotta win this next fight bad," Weidman explained.
"Every fight just feels like it's the life changer, feels like the most important fight of your life, and we're still there. This next fight is huge for me, I gotta win."

Dana White's current live gate estimate for UFC 168 places it second all time in the U.S.
|
By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief
There was no question that Saturday's UFC 168 card was going to be one of the biggest events in UFC history, and as far as ticket sales are concerned, it's leaning that way.
"We're so sold out on this fight, it's insane," White said in a media scrum following the pre-fight press conference on Thursday (transcribed by MMAWeekly.com). "There are some singles left out there."
"I think we're at $6.3 million right now."
If that number is where the event winds up, that makes it the second biggest gate the UFC has garnered in the U.S. Due to ticket prices being lower than last year's Anderson Silva-Chael Sonnen rematch, it would fall short of that record setting $6.9 million gate.
However, this Anderson Silva-Chris Weidman rematch at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas would still be the next biggest, surpassing what the UFC brought in last month for their 20th anniversary card at UFC 167.
Both of those events are well shy of the UFC's all-time record, though, as they hit the $12 million mark for UFC 129 in Toronto. That event was a massive outlier, as they drew an attendance of 55,000 in their only stadium show to date.
Penick's Analysis: That this card is among the biggest ever from a live gate standpoint isn't surprising at all. The Silva-Weidman rematch is massive, given what happened in that fight in July, and the Ronda Rousey-Miesha Tate rivalry has been brought to a further pitch this fall/winter as well. It's a big, big night, and the people paying some of those exorbitant ticket prices clearly believe that as well.

UFC 168: Anderson Silva Says Saturday Night Could be Last Fight
A few weeks back, it didn’t seem like there was a ton of talk about whether Anderson Silva might retire following UFC 168, due to the legend’s consistent statements that he intends to finish out his UFC contract (a ten fight deal). In fact, not long ago, Silva said he’d continue to fight, even if UFC boss man Dana White thought he should hang up the gloves. Some observers have taken the comments with a grain of salt, however, due to the fact Silva is 38 years-old, and it wasn’t that long ago he was saying he planned to call it quits at 35.
Well, now, just days after Silva relayed at a pre-fight presser that he still plans to finish out his UFC deal, a rather interesting interview with MMA Fighting.com has surfaced. Early on, Silva was asked by Ariel Helwani why he wasn’t wearing any Nike attire. “The Spider” is endorsed by the sporting goods giant. The former middleweight champ relayed that the question is one for White, not him…
Then, Silva was asked if he was close to retiring after his UFC 162 loss to Weidman, and the renowned fighter admitted that “we’re always close to calling it quits.” Okay. So, when Helwani asked whether there’s anything behind rumours that Silva might indeed, walk away from fighting after UFC 168, he stated:
“Maybe; maybe,” when asked by Helwani if Saturday could be his last fight.
“I don’t know,” when asked to offer a percentage on how likely his retirement could be. “I have a great, great chance for stopping the fight”
Now sure, some of the comments back-and-forth may have been lost in translation, and Silva could be just playing up the retirement talk for various reasons, but it was an odd interview to say the least. Especially when you compare it to some of the more recent ones Silva has done. Was Silva saying he might retire, but it depends on whether he wins? It’s hard to say.
If the consensus G.O.A.T. walks away from the game Saturday night, the UFC will head into 2014 without two of it’s biggest stars and pay-per-view draws (yes, the other being Georges St. Pierre). Even more reasons to watch the action.

UFC 168: Anderson Silva's coach thinks lack of motivation cost him in first Chris Weidman fight
|
By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief
When Anderson Silva fights Chris Weidman for the second time on Saturday night, he'll be joined by a former longtime coach who hasn't been in his corner for a while. Muay Thai instructor Diogenes Assahida has been a part of this camp for Silva, his first full camp with Silva since Silva's first fight with Chael Sonnen in 2010.
As a long time friend and confidant of Silva's, Assahida believes there is a very simple explanation for Anderson Silva's performance at UFC 162 this summer: lack of motivation.
In an interview with ESPN.com, Assahida said he felt Silva was no longer motivated to hold onto the UFC Title into the Weidman fight, and it cost him. While he's not sure if Silva cares about being the Champion at all, Assahida's certain Silva wants to avenge that loss.
"Since he started training in the beginning, he's always worked hard to be the best - to be the champion," Assahida said. "In my personal opinion, I don't know how much it matters to him to be the champion anymore, but it matters to win this fight."
"I think for a few fights, he's had a little bit of a lack of motivation. He was tired. His mindset and his focus now look good. I've been with him since the beginning of this camp and I am very confident."
Penick's Analysis: That's the interesting factor into this rematch. Is Silva motivated fully to avenge that loss? Is he motivated to be at the top of the UFC's middleweight division? Does he care about any of it at this stage in his fighting career? I think he does, I think he is out to win on Saturday night and to just prove he's better than Weidman. What he does from there remains to be seen, but I think he is truly out to win this fight, and if that's not the case, then it will be Weidman's night once again.

Carlos Condit vs. Tyron Woodley set for UFC 171
At Saturday night's UFC on FOX 9 post-fight media scrum in Sacramento, UFC president Dana White indicated that Tyron Woodley had been relentlessly texting him, looking for a big fight.
White also said Woodley wouldn't get the fight with Carlos Condit that Nick Diaz turned down earlier in the evening.
But sometime between Saturday and Tuesday, White had a change of heart. The UFC's UK Twitter reported on Tuesday that Condit and Woodley will meet at UFC 171 in Dallas.
Condit, the former UFC interim and WEC welterweight champion, was scheduled to take on Matt Brown on Dec. 14 in Sacramento, but Brown had to pull out late due to suffering herniated discs in his back late in training camp. Condit (29-7) lost back-to-back fights to Georges St-Pierre and Johny Hendricks, but rebounded in August with a fine victory over Martin Kampmann, a fourth-round finish.
For Woodley, this is no doubt his biggest career opportunity. The American Top Team Fighter and former U. of Missouri wrestler is 12-2 on his career and 2-1 in the UFC, with his most recent performance being a vicious knockout of Josh Koscheck at UFC 167.
UFC 171 on March 15 in Dallas will feature Hendricks vs. Robbie Lawler for the welterweight title recently vacated by St-Pierre.

Ronda Rousey Nude on Latest Marc Jacobs ‘Skin Tee’ (Pic)
We’ve all seen UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey nude before – less the goodies, of course – when she donned the 2012 cover of ESPN the Magazine’s annual “The Body Issue,” so we know Rousey’s not shy when it comes to showing off her buff body.
Rousey has just shed her threads again, but this time for a great cause. The “Rowdy” one is the latest superstar to appear on designer Marc Jacobs’ “Skin Tee,” which reads “PROTECT THE SKIN YOU’RE IN” over Rousey’s bare bod.
All proceeds from the sale of the t-shirt will be donated to the NYU Skin Cancer Institute. Rousey’s red shit is currently available on MarcJacobs.com and costs $35.
Rousey joins the likes of Miley Cyrus, Victoria Beckham, Cara Delevingne and others to score a shirt with Jacobs.
Take that, Miesha Tate!
Of course, fans have the chance to watch Rousey and Tate strip down to their skimpies this afternoon when they tip the scale ahead of tomorrow’s fight.
Rousey defends her throne against Tate Saturday at UFC 168. The bitter rivals co-headline the pay-per-view broadcast.

UFC 168's Anderson Silva says he's not retiring after Saturday's card, plans to fight as long as he enjoys it
|
By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief
For a very short time after the conclusion of UFC 162 this July, Anderson Silva was close to hanging up his gloves. The loss to Chris Weidman had removed the weight of being the long-reigning Champion, and there was a part of him prepared to walk away.
But that thought was quickly dispatched, with Silva agreeing to return for the rematch with Weidman. And heading into Saturday's second fight, Silva says he's sticking around no matter what happens.
"I'm going to answer this like Ronaldo did once - of course I'm going to go back and play and I'm very happy and of course I'm coming back," he said at the pre-fight press conference on Thursday (via FoxSports.com).
"After the last fight, after the dust settled I was sitting thinking alone and thinking maybe I should stop," he continued. "Maybe this is it. But I got on the phone with my son and my son said, 'Hey dad, do what you want to do, do what makes you happy,' and that's what I'm doing."
"I still have eight fights left on my contract and as long as I'm still enjoying it and I still want to go out there and have that desire to fight, I'm going to keep on fighting. If I'm going to retire, there's no way to say that right now. That's something that's going to come from the heart."
Penick's Analysis: Silva's had so many stops and starts when it comes to a possible retirement that until he officially walks away and has no return in sight, it should just be assumed he'll keep going. Of course, he hasn't had a non-title fight since 2006, and a second loss to Weidman could change his mind on things. Regardless, I think he'll keep fighting for a time regardless of what happens in this fight, but for how long is anyone's guess.
