Jon Fitch fighting Erick Silva at UFC 153

Two of the UFC’s top welterweights will meet in main card action on October 13 when the UFC heads to Rio de Janeiro for UFC 153, as a bout between Jon Fitch and Erick Silva has been linked to the upcoming event. Fitch holds an overall record of 23-4-1 while Silva is 14-2 including a controversial disqualification loss from earlier this year.

Though nothing official has been announced by the UFC, Silva’s manager (Wallid Ismail) revealed the rumble by way of Twitter.

Fitch will be looking to rebound from his second stumble ever inside the Octagon, suffering a knockout at the hands of Johny Hendricks in late 2011. However, prior to the defeat he’d gone 5-0-1 with wins over the likes of Ben Saunders, Paulo Thiago, Mike Pierce, and Thiago Alves.

While Silva lacks Fitch’s name recognition, the rising Brazilian has looked sharp in his trio of UFC tilts – even the one he lost after landing a questionable strike to the back of an opponent’s head – with all of the finishes occurring in the opening round of action. He was last seen tapping out Charlie Brenneman at UFC on FX 3.

UFC 153 is headlined by Jose Aldo putting his featherweight gold up for grabs against Erik Koch and features bouts such as Glover Teixeira-Quinton Jackson and Vitor Belfort-Alan Belcher.
