Cheick Kongo still seeking future scrap with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira

Cheick Kongo understandably caught a lot of the fans’ frustration regarding UFC 149 based on his lack of overall activity and aggression in a decision win over Shawn Jordan. Now, with the ugly, yet much-needed, victory in his rear-view mirror Kongo is already looking forward to the future.

Kongo was originally expected to face Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at the Calgary-based card but ended up with Jordan after Nogueira pulled out because an injured arm had not healed properly. With a strong 4-1-1 record in his last six fights, Kongo remains hopeful for a future meeting with the former interim UFC heavyweight champion.

“I wish he could be my next opponent,” said Kongo in a recent interview with Tatame.com. “‘Minotauro; is a legend. I wish him a good and fast recovery. I can’t wait to fight against him.”

The powerful Frenchman is 18-7-2 with 11 knockout victories in his career. He has competed in the UFC since 2006 and picked up wins inside the Octagon against the likes of Matt Mitrione, Pat Barry, and Mirko Filipovic.

Nogueira has since come forward to say he too would be open to the match-up and is waiting for the UFC to call him with the proposed pairing.
