NHL 2014 Playoff Thread
Not sure but i think they changed that to make the Vegas odds makers happier and I have read that it has increased the Vegas interest big time because once the brackets are set there are less variables to predicting outcomes.

Rafael dos Anjos vs. Jason High set for UFC Fight Night 42 in Albuquerque
The lightweight division will get a new member when the UFC makes its first trip to Albuquerque, N.M.
Jason High (18-4 MMA, 2-2 UFC) will drop to 155 pounds from welterweight to take on Rafael dos Anjos (20-7 MMA, 9-5 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 42. UFC officials announced the new fight booking overnight.
UFC Fight Night 42 takes place June 7 at Albuquerques Tingley Coliseum. The events main card is expected to air on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on UFC Fight Pass, though an official announcement has yet to be made.
High is the exception to the rule in dropping down a weight class in that hes not coming off a loss. In fact, he has two straight wins at welterweight and has won nine of his past 10. He returned to the UFC in June 2013 after a 3-0 run in Strikeforce, but was stopped by Erick Silva in 71 seconds in Brazil. But then he submitted James Head at UFC Fight Night 27 and outpointed Anthony Lapsley at UFC 167 in November.
After the win over Lapsley, High talked about moving to lightweight, but was booked for a two-month turnaround in a welterweight fight with Adlan Amagov. He was handed Beneil Dariush when Amagov had to pull out, but then a bout of appendicitis took High out of the fight, as well.
Dos Anjos has his next assignment in a hurry. Less than two weeks ago, he dropped a decision to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC on FOX 11, which halted a five-fight winning streak that included decision wins over Donald Cerrone, Evan Dunham, Mark Bocek and Anthony Njokuani.
The latest UFC Fight Night 42 card includes:
Benson Henderson vs. Rustam Khabilov
Ross Pearson vs. Diego Sanchez
Bryan Caraway vs. Erik Perez
Rafael dos Anjos vs. Jason High
Lance Benoist vs. Bobby Voelker
John Dodson vs. John Moraga
Yaotzin Meza vs. Sergio Pettis
Yves Edwards vs. Piotr Hallmann
Francimar Barroso vs. Patrick Cummins
Scott Jorgensen vs. Danny Martinez

Pressure on Jon Jones to rematch Alexander Gustafsson
Jon Jones has yet to come to terms with the UFC on a new contract or a finalized bout agreement to defend his light heavyweight title in a rematch with Alexander Gustafsson. UFC officials had previously announced that the fight is targeted as the main event for UFC 177 on Aug. 30 in Las Vegas but this past weekend, promotion president Dana White said that Jones has yet to sign on the dotted line.
“We just signed Gustafsson to a new deal, and Jones is getting a new deal, too. We’re doing a new deal with him," White said.
An episode of UFC: Embedded showed UFC co-owner and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta and Dana White starting a meeting with Jones' manager Wayne Harriman to negotiate a new contract for the champion. The UFC is putting up the PR heat on Jones to re-sign with them promptly and to do the August fight with the Swede.
In addition to publicizing their negotiations with Jones' management, the promotion has made headlines by announcing that Gustafsson has signed on for the rematch. White also told reporters this past weekend that, should Jones not sign on to fight Gustafsson in August at UFC 177, the fight could then be made for a later date but in Gustafsson's home of Sweden.
The 26 year-old title-holder last fought and won in late April against Glover Teixeira. Jones refused to give an immediate rematch to Gustafsson after their razo-thin close war last fall and chose instead to fight the Brazilian.
Gustafsson's last fight was the month prior, when he stopped Jimi Manuwa in the second round. Jones has used his position as champion deftly thus far - avoiding the immediate rematch with his toughest foe and brushing off talk of Gustafsson's succes with excuses.
It is unlikely, of course, that Jones will not ultimately rematch Gustafsson. Jones has been, afterall, perhaps the most active top contender and champion in the promotion's history - fighting all-comers and often on short notice.
Do you think Jones is trying to avoid a fight with Gustafsson or simply being smart and using his leverage to secure a good new deal with the UFC?

About Ninjashoes MMA Forum and End of Days Radio
Ninjashoes MMA forum was an original concept created by an ex Sherdog poster named Ninjashoes who was banned and decided to create his own community where people could discuss any topic freely without getting censored.
The original idea for this forum sprung up back in 2005 and went through several free incarnations until Ninjashoes purchased an actual domain name in May 2006, thats when the madness truly began.
End of Days Radio is an offshoot of Ninjashoes MMA Forum but also its own completely separate project. This joint collaboration was started by Ninjashoes himself and a rather infamous poster of the forum named Resin(tm) who actually designed all the art for Ninjashoes.net.
Ninja and Resin decided to start a podcast based on their favorite radio show Coast to Coast AM and because of their interest in paranormal topics. We also cover things like Mixed Martial Arts of course, Pro Wrestling and Psychedelics.

5/21 AFTERNOON UPDATE: Shields hurt, out of WSOF 11; Roundtable predictions for Lawler-Ellenberger at UFC 173; Gracie's arrest issue; Dantas responds to Warren; Lombard not impressed with Brown;

WEDNESDAY 5/21 AFTERNOON UPDATE
If you're tuning in to the App for the first time in a while, make sure to check out the big update on the App's home page for notes and information on the changes made to the new mobile site at MMATorch.com in your mobile browser. Our tech team has been working on even more tweaks based on your feedback, and have optimized the site for Safari and the default Android browser. They're continuing to work on the same for both Chrome and Opera as well. Keep sending your thoughts in to mmatorch@gmail.com so we can make the mobile site the best experience for you! We truly appreciate the feedback, and we're making changes as necessary. Here's what hit the site this afternoon:
-Jake Shields has suffered an injury, taking him out of his planned World Series of Fighting debut in July with Jon Fitch. This is the second opponent Fitch has lost for the event, but the WSOF is looking for a replacement to keep him on the card. More on that with commentary in the main listing at MMATorch.com in your phone or tablet browser.
-In a new roundtable this afternoon, the crew looks at the Robbie Lawler vs. Jake Ellenberger fight at UFC 173 this weekend and gives their predictions. There's some differing opinion on who's going to come out the victor in that fight, but everyone's expecting it to be entertaining. Excerpt from Dan Moore: “Of the three headlining fights, it's the one that offers the best chance of a potential upset victory. I look at Robbie Lawler in the same light I do Matt Brown; a very entertaining and experienced fan favourite whose resurgence is going to come to an end sooner rather than later. Jake Ellenberger could very well be the guy who ends Lawler's chance of ever fighting for the Welterweight Title again.” Check out the full roundtable in the main listing.
-Renzo Gracie this week is trying to downplay his arrest in New York, calling it a “misunderstanding.” However, the alleged victim tells a very different story, and says the attack from Gracie and several others late Sunday night/early Monday morning was planned and coordinated. More details on the situation with analysis in the main listing.
-Bellator Champ Eduardo Dantas has fired back at Joe Warren over his recent comments, and said further drug use must be to blame for his outbursts. To that point, he suggested they do random drug testing for their title fight, but doesn't expect Warren to agree to it because then they wouldn't fight. Dantas' quotes with further thoughts in the main listing.
-Also today, Hector Lombard called out Matt Brown publicly on Twitter with a comment that he wasn't impressed by his fighting resume. It was prompted by Brown bumping ahead of him in the UFC rankings despite never having beaten a top ten fighter. He's definitely got a point there, but that's a fight I'd love to see regardless. More on that in the main listing now.
We thank all of our readers for their feedback and patience as we continue making improvements on the new mobile site. [VIDEO] UFC's Matt Brown in on 'Fight me' prank
We are evidently late to the party with this hilarious prank video starring UFC welterweight Matt Brown, but since we just saw it for the first time today and since "The Immortal" is a hot topic these days, we had to share with you. In the video below, Brown and a bunch of other burly dudes prank innocent and unsuspecting people on the street into believing that they're about to fight them for sleeping with one of their wives.
Alright, that sounds strange and complicated but just go ahead and watch and thank us afterwards. Also, let us know your favorite moment in the comments section.

Chael Sonnen on memory loss from TUF sucker punches
Chael Sonnen certainly appeared to get the better of Wanderlei Silva in their brief brawl on the set of TUF: Brazil 3. Sonnen ducked under Silva's initial blow, took the former champ down with ease and then landed punches from on top of the Brazilian.
The only problem was, of course, that Silva's assistant coach Andre Dida jumped in to help his teammate and punched Sonnen in the back of the head a number of times. In an interview with The Wrestling Observer, Sonnen said that he felt fine after the skirmish, but later realized that he likely suffered some short-term memory loss as a result.
"I felt like I was okay, but I had dialog with some guys, including one guy in production the next day and he told me the dialog wasn't coherent the next day. I told him a story that I thought was a pretty good story, but I wasn't getting much of a reaction. He said, `The problem is, you told me the story yesterday,'" Sonnen said.
The trash-talking wrestler went on to say that he still wasn't concerned enough to go to a hospital, however. Sonnen will get his chance to go one-on-one with Silva at UFC 175 and knows that "The Axe Murderer" can still pack a punch.
"This won't go down in a 30-second match," Sonnen said.
"We're going to have to work hard. I can tease Wanderlei, but he's got tremendous heart, he hits extremely hard, especially early. He's a little wild, but if the shot lands, I'm not above being in trouble."

Following cancelation of Palhares vs. Fitch, WSOF executive issues warning to fighters
"Enough is enough."
Ali Abdel-Aziz, the executive vice president of World Series of Fighting, is tired of feeling like he is being taken advantage of, and he's apparently putting his foot down.
Abdel-Aziz told MMAFighting.com on Wednesday that due to personal reasons Rousimar Palhares has withdrawn from his welterweight title fight against Jon Fitch on July 5. Palhares' manager Alex Davis was not immediately available to discuss why Palhares had to pull out of the fight.
As a result, the new main event of WSOF 11 will be Justin Gaehtje vs. Nick Newell for the lightweight title. Abdel-Aziz added that the promotion is working towards booking Fitch vs. Jake Shields in the co-main event. Also slated to fight on the July 5 card, which just so happens to be the same date as UFC 175, are Melvin Guillard and JZ Cavalcante in separate bouts. A venue has yet to be finalized for the card.
So why has Abdel-Aziz had enough?
"We're getting screwed," he said. "I'm trying to put on a fight card and be nice to fighters, and now they dont want to fight each other.
"I have to put WSOF first and everyone else second. No more Mr. Nice Guy."
Abdel-Aziz said he has grown increasingly tired of fighters turning down fights after agreeing to them and/or asking to be released with hopes of signing with the UFC or other promotions. Just last week, WSOF agreed to release Andrei Arlovski from his contract to sign with the UFC. Prior to that, Josh Burkman and Gerald Harris, who says he is now retired from MMA, publicly complained about their status with WSOF. He added that there were other similar examples that he wanted to keep off the record, as well.
"I'm getting sick of this," he said. "If a fighter is not going to respect the promotion, he is going to be shelved for a long time. I will not release anyone to another promotion. Fighters must honor their contracts."
The promotion's next event, WSOF 10, is slated to take place June 21. It will be headlined by Dave Branch vs. Jesse Taylor for the WSOF middleweight title and Georgi Karakhanyan vs. Rick Glenn for the featherweight title.

5/19 NIGHT UPDATE: "King Mo" still unhappy with treatment in Bellator; Renzo and Igor Gracie arrested for assault; Brandao injured and off "TUF: Brazil 3" Finale; Auckland newcomer joins UFC's New Zealand card

MONDAY 5/19 NIGHTTIME UPDATE
If you're tuning in to the App for the first time in a while, make sure to check out the big update on the App's home page for notes and information on the changes made to the new mobile site at MMATorch.com in your mobile browser. Our tech team has been working on even more tweaks based on your feedback, and have optimized the site for Safari and the default Android browser. They're continuing to work on the same for both Chrome and Opera as well. Keep sending your thoughts in to mmatorch@gmail.com so we can make the mobile site the best experience for you! We truly appreciate the feedback, and we're making changes as necessary. Here's what's on the site tonight:
-Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney thought he had squashed things with Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal on Saturday night between the Bellator 120 card and its post-fight press conference. Then Rebney decided to turn the heat back on himself by agreeing with the universally decried judges decision and say he scored it the same way. Lawal went off on Monday further, and said if Bellator can't or won't give him respect, maybe another organization will. See his comments with further analysis in the main listing at MMATorch.com in your phone or tablet browser now.
-In news out of New York, longtime trainer and former UFC competitor Renzo Gracie was arrested, along with his cousin Igor, for their part in the alleged group beating of a nightclub bouncer. If proven true, it's pretty disgusting for someone with their background to be taking part in that type of assault given the multitude of techniques they'd have over a non-martial artist. More details with analysis in the main listing.
-Diego Brandao has suffered an injury, taking him out of next week's “Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 3” Finale event in Sao Paulo. The UFC has scrapped his fight with newcomer Brian Ortega. Head to the main listing for the full card as it stands now.
-Finally tonight, the UFC's first ever event in New Zealand, which comes to the city of Auckland on June 28, has added a native of Auckland. Lightweight Dan Hooker will take on fellow UFC newcomer Ian Entwistle on the card. Get more information on both fighters now at the new and improved MMATorch.com in your phone or tablet browser.

5/27 AFTERNOON UPDATE: Lawler-Brown headlines UFC on Fox 12; Cormier roundtable; Bellator 120 PPV buy estimates; UFC 173 payroll; Rockhold on Belfort

TUESDAY 5/27 AFTERNOON UPDATE
-The UFC announced a big fight for the UFC on Fox 12 headliner in July, as Robbie Lawler will fight for the third time in four months when he takes on Matt Brown. The five round bout will be a five-round No. 1 contender fight in the welterweight division, as Dana White says the winner will get the title shot against Johny Hendricks later this year. Get more on that matchup in the main listing at MMATorch.com in your phone or tablet browser.
-In our new roundtable today, the crew discussed Daniel Cormier and whether or not his performance against Dan Henderson swayed opinion on what he'd do in a matchup with Jon Jones. Most of the comments expressed doubt that it means much of anything, but there was some acknowledgment of what he may be able to do. Excerpt from Cameron Lyman: “Cormier has that size advantage and speed on his side as well and he may very well be the next Champion if he possesses Jones' kryptonite. If he can put the champ on his back, then the fight is his to lose. Sure, that's a big if, considering Jones has high level wrestling, but have you seen his legs?” Full roundtable in the main listing.
-Bellator's first ever pay-per-view took place ten days ago, and we're getting an early idea of how it performed on pay-per-view. According to the earliest reports thus far, the buyrate ranges anywhere from 35,000-65,000 buys, but the thought is it may end up closer to the high end. If it's closer to the top number, that's a better buyrate than most expected, though whether or not that's a success for Bellator and Viacom remains to be seen. More on the buyrate with analysis in the main listing.
-Back to UFC 173, the Nevada Athletic Commission released the full disclosed payroll for the event, with Robbie Lawler and Daniel Cormier topping the night's list of earnings with $200K and $170K, respectively. New UFC Champ T.J. Dillashaw earned just $36,000 in contracted earnings for his win over Renan Barao. Get the full list of payouts for the event in the main listing.
-Finally this afternoon, Luke Rockhold again talked about Vitor Belfort in a new interview, as he continues trying to get back into a rematch to avenge what he thinks was a fluky loss last year.. He also again discussed what he thinks is a highly shady past for Belfort as far as drugs are concerned. Catch his comments with further thoughts in the main listing now.
We thank all of our readers for their feedback and patience as we continue making improvements on the new mobile site. Matt Brown vs Erick Silva - Worst Beating in UFC History?
And to call this fight Fight of the Year? Really? It was completely one sided when Brown got back on his feet in round 1.
With Askren-Abbasov in headliner, 'ONE FC 16: Honor & Glory' adds five more bouts
Five more bouts are now official for next months ONE FC 16: Honor & Glory event, which features a previously announced welterweight headliner between former Bellator MMA champion Ben Askren (12-0) and Bakhtiyar Abbasov (11-2).
ONE FC 16 takes place May 30 at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. The event streams as an online pay-per-view in North America.
One of the key bouts includes bantamweight Xian Ji (11-2), a Chinese prospect and former titleholder for the Legend FC promotion, vs. Thanh Vu (3-3), a Vietnamese-Australian grappler who fights for the fourth time under the ONE FC banner.
Also added to the card is a heavyweight bout between kickboxing and muay Thai champion Alain Ngalani (1-1) and Chi Lewis Parry (5-0), an undefeated prospect and former pro basketball player from the U.K.
Other additions include bantamweights Radeem Rahman (1-0) vs Raymond Tan (2-1), bantamweights Stephen Langdown (1-0) vs Casey Suire (4-0), and a catchweight fight between Nik Harris (5-2) and Brad Robinson (2-0).
The latest ONE FC 16 card includes:
Bakhtiyar Abbasov vs. Ben Askren
Caros Fodor vs. Willy Ni
Jake Butler vs. Pane Haraki
Xian Ji vs. Thanh Vu
Chi Lewis Parry vs. Alain Ngalani
Radeem Rahman vs. Raymond Tan
Stephen Langdown vs. Casey Suire

Roy Nelson vs. Mark Hunt bangfest for Sept. 20 return to Japan
"Super Samoan" vs. "Big Country?" That's a hard-hitting heavyweight match up if I ever saw one.
"The Land of the Rising Sun" is in the running to play host to a potential slobberknocker of a heavyweight fight, as Mark Hunt and Roy Nelson could be heading to Japan this September.
That's according to a report by UFC Tonight, which also indicates the healing of Nelson's hand -- injured on the dome of Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira last month in Abu Dhabi -- could be the deciding factor.
Two big men with crazy knockout power trying to knock each other's blocks off?
Yes please!
Hunt (9-8-1) recently fought to a draw against Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva last December in an action-packed, five-round affair at UFC Fight Night 33 (video). Prior to that, the "Super Samoan" had his four-fight win streak snapped by Junior dos Santos at UFC 160.
In addition, he's had his own share of hand issues.
Nelson (20-9), meanwhile, recently ended his two-fight skid at UFC Fight Night 39 by knocking out "Minotauro" (relive it again here). Unfortunately, "Big Country" suffered a broken hand during the fight that required surgery, which is why the potential scrap against Hunt is in limbo.
Indeed, this heavyweight match up has long been on fight fans' wish list, and if everything works out as planned, it could become reality this fall.
Fingers crossed.

This week, The Sunday Junkie got reams of entries on the potential fight between the UFC's middleweight and welterweight champs, which could be in the works after St-Pierre's win over Carlos Condit at UFC 154.
But this week's Canadian winner, "A-shock," from London, Ontario, has some interesting ideas on how to infuse new life into the UFC's reality series, "The Ultimate Fighter."

Anthony Johnson dominates Phil Davis at UFC 172
Anthony Johnson is one of the best-205 pounders in the world. After over two years in exile from the UFC, the former welterweight made a triumphant return to the promotion Saturday night, defeating top-ranked Phil Davis by unanimous decision in the UFC 172 co-main event.
Scores were 30-27 all around in favor of Johnson. For three rounds, Johnson used superior striking to tag Davis and excellent takedown defense to keep the fight standing.
Johnson stuffed all eight of the former NCAA Division I wrestling national champion's takedown attempts while landing one of his own. On the feet, Johnson kept his hands low the entire fight but used excellent head movement and footwork to dodge, weave and cut angles while landing punch, after knee after kick to the legs, body and head of Davis.
In his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, Johnson thanked the man who cut him from the UFC roster two years ago, UFC president Dana White. Johnson failed to make weight before his 2012 fight with Vitor Belfort and ended up losing via first-round submission.
"Mr. Dana White. Thank you for what you did... he's the man who changed me - made me turn into a beast."
The win is Johnson's seventh straight since the loss to Belfort. Davis' loss is only the second of his career and snapped a three-fight win streak for the wrestler.
Who should be next for Johnson after his leap into the UFC light heavyweight division's elite? Let us know what you think in the comments section.

MMA fighter taps out instead of beating on opponent
Amateur MMA fighter Mike Pantangco lost in extraordinary fashion recently. Pantangco appeared to be teeing off on Jeremy Rasner during their Prison City Fight League bout when he kneeled down and tapped out, signaling his submission and forcing the referee to step in and hand the win to his opponent Rasner.
According to statements given to Axs TV, Pantangco began to feel sympathy for his opponent and so he opted out of the fight.
"I just feel that there's no point in fighting him because he didn't train against me and I didn't train for him and I just feel like we're amateur fighters. We don't get money. We don't get paid," said Pantangco in a heavy accent.
"And I know that the only thing [that'd happen] is him to go to the hospital or get hurt. I just feel terrible so I'm just going to give him the win."
Watch highlights of the fight below and let us know what you think in the comments section.
Do you agree with Pantangco's decision to give up rather than attempt to finish his opponent or do you think it was bizarre behavior?

UFC releases Jake Shields
After a little over three years, Jake Shields' UFC run has come to an end.
The former welterweight contender has been released by the promotion, his manager Lex McMahon of Alchemist Management confirmed with MMAFighting.com.
McMahon released the following statement to MMAFighting.com Monday morning:
"Jake Shields has been released by the UFC. Jake appreciates the opportunities provided by the UFC and thanks Dana White and Lorenzo Fertita. Jake is an elite athlete who is one of the best welterweight fighters in the world with a long history of winning at a championship level.
"Jake and our team are already exploring options. I'm confident that Jake will have a new promotion to call home very soon. Jake thanks his fans for their support and looks forward to competing for them again soon."
Shields (29-7-1, 1 NC) most recently lost a unanimous decision to Hector Lombard at UFC 171 last month. The loss snapped a four-fight unbeaten streak for the 35-year-old. He made his Octagon debut at UFC 121 in Oct. 2010, defeating Martin Kampmann via split decision. His next fight was against Georges St-Pierre for the UFC welterweight title at UFC 129 in what is still the highest-grossing event in the organization's history. Over 55,000 people attended the event at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, and the gate was over $12 million. Both remain records.
Shields, who made his MMA debut in 1999, is a former EliteXC welterweight champion and Strikeforce middleweight champion. Arguably his highest-profile win came when he defeated Dan Henderson on CBS. He signed with the UFC following that win and went 4-3 with 1 no contest inside the Octagon. His no contest came after he failed a post-fight drug test for an undisclosed reason following his UFC 150 win over Ed Herman in Aug. 2012.

After successful surgery, mess in Macau, David Mitchell primed for UFC victory
Injuries, surgery and rehabilitation have left Mitchell out of action for more than 15 months - a streak he had hoped to end earlier this month.
Left without an opponent and some 7,000 miles from home, Mitchell admits it was a frustrating plight. Now he's aiming for a January return, and he's anxious to show the world what he can do when fighting at full strength.

-The UFC is targeting the rematch between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson for UFC 177 on August 30, and it's expected to come to Las Vegas. The only holdup is finalizing a new deal with Jones, as they're in negotiations currently. More on that with commentary in the main listing.
-In other fight news, the UFC announced on Saturday that Michael Bisping vs. Cung Le will headline the Macau event on Aug. 23, with Hector Lombard vs. Dong Hyun Kim confirmed for the co-main event. More info on the fights, fighters, and the event in the main listing.
-With his title win on Saturday night, Dillashaw scored not only the biggest win of his career, but a massive payday as well with an extra $100,000 in bonus money. Renan Barao and Mitch Clarke earned an extra $50K each themselves. More details on their efforts in the main listing.

SeaWorld 'Disappointed' After Travel Company STA Ends 'Unethical' Animal Trips
In a dramatic move that could have a great impact on how animal parks conduct business, a major travel company has announced it is to boycott a number of attractions due to welfare concerns.
Animal charities have welcomed the news that STA Travel, which specialises in trips for students and young people, has said it will stop selling tours involving elephant rides and tiger temple visits to tourists.
The company confirmed it is also reviewing other excursions, including SeaWorld in Orlando, Florida, which has found itself the subject of controversy for keeping whales in captivity, highlighted in last year's documentary film, Blackfish.
Philip Mansbridge, the chief executive of Care for the Wild, which runs the RIGHT-tourism.org website promoting animal-friendly tourist activities, described the move as "major".
He said: "It's what we needed to see from a big player in the tourism business, but it was never going to be easy for a large company to say 'no' to big money-makers like SeaWorld. It's taken courage on their behalf to do this, and we congratulate them.
"This move by STA sends out a strong message that animals don't exist for our entertainment. It follows Abta's excellent animal welfare guidelines which were produced last year, which aim to get the travel industry to think harder about where they send their customers, and Richard Branson consulting on dolphinariums, so it feels like there's a real sea-change going on.
"Customers are becoming more aware of what responsible tourism means when it comes to animals, and tour operators are starting to listen."
Mimi Bekhechi, Petas campaigns associate director in the UK, said the time had come to stop companies profiting from the "profound suffering" of captive animals.
"Companies still profiting from the captivity of sentient beings have their days numbered," she warned.
Kathryn Kirkpatrick, STA Travel's social responsibility programme manager, said the decision was made because "if something isn't up to our standards, we remove it."
"We are reviewing our entire portfolio of animal-focused tours. This is the beginning of a lengthy process for STA Travel to ensure we are offering the very best possible range of experiences for our customers.
"SeaWorld is one of many animal-focussed experiences we will be reviewing but continue to sell."
In a statement SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment defended its attractions.
Although STA Travel are not contracted directly by SeaWorld, it is disappointing that they have made the decision to stop selling tickets to our parks. It is unfortunate that STA Travel did not approach SeaWorld when conducting this evaluation so that we could share with them our high standards of care and the rigorous inspection and accreditation process that assures the health and well-being of our animals.
Unfortunately, like most zoological institutions, we are sometimes targeted by animal activist groups that are opposed to the display of animals and too often trade in charges that are completely baseless," they added.
Good! Seaworld fuckin sucks.

Cain Velasquez vs. Fabricio Werdum set for Nov. 15 in Mexico City
It's finally official - Cain Velasquez will defend his UFC heavyweight title against Fabricio Werdum Nov. 15 at UFC 180 in Mexico City. The pair will first coach opposite one another on the first season of The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America.
The season will begin filming May 12 in Las Vegas and will air in the U.S. and in Mexico on Televisa beginning August 18. The announcements came Tuesday from UFC president Dana White at a press conference.
"It's a great day for me and the UFC," he said.
"Anyone who has followed this company and this sport knows I've been talking abut Mexico for a very long time. I thought Mexico worked very well with this demographic and this sport. And I always knew it would be big here if we had a chance to come here."
Velasquez is of Mexican descent and Werdum is Brazilian, though is also fluent in Spanish and is one of the UFC's Spanish-language event commentators. Werdum last fought and won April 19, dominating Travis Browne and earning the title shot.
Velasquez has not fought since last October when he stopped Junior Dos Santos in their rubber match, and is currently recovering from shoulder surgery. Coming back from just the latest serious injury in his career will be a challenge for Velasquez, he knows, but the champ is confident he'll shine in Mexico City.
"I'm going to do whatever I can do fight here in Mexico," he said.
"I'm going to be ready to do whatever it takes to give you a great fight. I've had an injury and I know what I have to do to be ready."
Neither fighter had bad things to say about the other. The challenger simply promised a good fight.
"I don't have to say bad things about Cain. He's a good person," Werdum said.
"I've had the opportunity to interview him and we've always had a cordial relationship. What we can promise is the fight is going to be a great fight. The rest of the UFC Mexico City card is not yet set but White promised that the promotion would try to fill it with solid match ups in order to make a splash in the new market.

UFC interim champ Renan Barao's coach prefers title shot, but doesn't want to wait
Nova Uniao leader and coach Andre Pederneiras on Wednesday told MMAjunkie.com he's waiting on UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby's call to tell him when and where UFC interim bantamweight champ Renan Barao is fighting next.
"If I had a choice, I would rather Renan fight Dominick (Cruz), but I don't want to wait too long," Pederneiras said.

5/22 AFTERNOON UPDATE: Bellator 121 card set with Prindle-Thompson headliner; Roundtable predictions for Cormier-Henderson; White says Nate Diaz not getting Matt Brown

THURSDAY 5/22 AFTERNOON UPDATE
-We've got some Bellator news up this afternoon, as they announced several new signings, along with the full June 6 card for Bellator 121 in Thackerville, Okla. Instead of the Pat Curran-Pitbull Freire rematch, Oklahoman fans are now getting Eric Prindle against a debuting James Thompson in the main event. Yes, in 2014, Bellator is headlining an event with the same James Thompson who fought Kimbo Slice on CBS six years ago. They've also brought in Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, who has lost two straight and is 2-4 in his last six. More information on the signings, and the full card for June 6, in the main listing now at MMATorch.com in your phone or tablet browser.
-Today's new roundtable features predictions for the Daniel Cormier vs. Dan Henderson fight at UFC 173, with the crew expecting a win from Cormier. Can't say I disagree a couple days out from the event. Excerpt from Cash Norman: “If Daniel Cormier does anything other than knock Dan Henderson out, I will consider it a loss for him. There isn't any reason Cormier should not finish Dan Henderson, especially if he considers himself the next contender for Jon Jones.” Full roundtable in the main listing.
-Finally, Dana White says Nate Diaz is not even in consideration for a fight with Matt Brown, which he tried to request last week. However, if his brother Nick is interested, the UFC will give him that fight. That's the right move from the UFC, as Nate has no business getting the Brown fight at this stage. Comments from White with further thoughts in the main listing now.
We thank all of our readers for their feedback and patience as we continue making improvements on the new mobile site.
